The next morning I slept in...Kc woke up and looked up at me and gave a slight smile as she gently played with my hair. I smiled at her, but I kept my eyes closed and snuggled closer to her. But instead of her getting up she snuggled back down next to me and laid her head back on my chest. I rubbed my hands slowly back and forth across her back a few times then asked her what time it was...she looked over at her Mickey Mouse clock and said it was 7:30. I gave a sigh and asked her if we had to get up...she lightly giggled as she gently kissed the tip of my nose, and told me I didn't have to, but she did...because if she didn't her large four legged children would tear down the stalls wanting to get fed and set out to pasture for the day.
I stretched out and chuckled a little bit then told her that I would get up and help her. It was easy beens we both didn't bother with getting undressed last night, all I had to do was put my shoes on, but she stopped me, and handed me a pair of rubber mucking boots, I looked up at her with a very silly expression on my face as I asked her why these boots??? She snickered at me and said if I wanted to help her today, I would need those, because if I wore my shoes, they would get lost in the shit...then she added humorously that she didn't mean that metaphorically either. I slid on the boots and followed her out to the horse barn and got busy working, first we took all the horses out of the stalls and poured their feed into the outside feed ben, then while they were eating Kc and I cleaned out all the stalls and wheelbarrowed the waste to the compost pile down the hill...then we laid all fresh straw in each stall, and put fresh water in each water bin.
By the time we were done cleaning all of the stalls, we both were covered in dirt, straw, and sweat...and I'm not going to say what was caked on our boots three inches thick...but I rather enjoyed the work and loved the company. What was more adorable was when Johnny came out wearing a small pair of muck boots and a little cowboy hat with a little rake wanting to help. Kc looked down at him and smiled at him then lifted him over the fence and let him rake a spot in the round pen, I went over to Johnny and asked him where he got his gear from. Kc told me that Johnny found Harley's clothes in the closet. I immediately went over to him and told him he needed to take all that stuff back...but Kc stopped me and told me that it was fine and that she was glad that they were getting used again. Then she knelt down beside Johnny and told him that he could have them just because he looked so damn cute in it.
Johnny dropped the little rake and scampered over to where the horses were and pointed at one of them and kept saying he wanted to pet. I ran over to him and picked him up and told him it was dangerous for him to run up to a group of animals that big, that didn't know him yet...because they could easily get spooked and run him over. Kc went to the far barn and came out with a little-tricolored pony and saddled him up then told Johnny that this one was more his size. I gave her a smile as I let him go to her and the pony. Johnny gave the pony a hug as he petted his nose over and over. Kc lifted him up into the saddle and told him that the pony's name was Two-Bits...and he loved kids. Kc led the pony around the round pen as Johnny got to sit in the saddle. When Kc stopped walking him, she knelt down and showed him how to hold the reins, and how to make him go, and stop...after Johnny's third try he had it.
I grabbed my phone and took so many pictures of him and Kc that I thought my phone was going to blow up on me. Kc grabbed my phone and told me to go next to my son, I playfully acted like I was riding on the pony behind him, then did a lot of silly poses as Kc snapped the pictures...while mom, Costa, and Tommy were sitting on the porch watching us. Tommy gave them both a smile and said that it was so good to see his little sister smile again. Then Rachel came out with Klayton wrapped around her as they both plopped on the steps and looked out where they were looking. Rachel smiled at Tommy and said Kc was getting back to her old self again, then she looked at our mom and said that she and Tommy owed that to me and Johnny.
Kc and I stayed down there with Johnny for two hours, before I told him it was enough horsing around, and that I needed to take him back to the house so we all could get cleaned up and get some grub for lunch because I was starving, after all that work this morning. Kc took the saddle off the pony, then let him go out with the other horses to graze, then shut the gate behind her, and held both of our hands as we all three walked back to the house. My moms jumped up out of the porch swing, gleaming with happiness, and ran into the kitchen to help Rachel and Kim make lunch for everyone.
I helped my son out of his dirty boots then slipped out of mine, and carried him into the house to clean him up, Kc ran out to the garage where Tommy was cleaning up his work area, and told her that the RV was fixed...she turned to him and asked him not to let me know that it was done already. Tommy looked at her a little confused and asked her why she looked down at her feet and said because she liked me a lot and she wasn't ready to see me and my family leave. Tommy kissed her on the forehead and told her that he wouldn't say a word.
