Cheryl eyes found Veronica's half way through the movie, it was one that Josie had chosen Veronica had never seen it whereas the rest of them had watched it almost every time they had a sleepover. It was cliche film where the girl falls for the popular guy but eventually realises the person she was meant to be with was the boy that had been beside her since the beginning; the best friend. Josie, Val and Melody always swooned over the boy and for a year Cheryl pretended to be attracted to him too, she didn't know how her friends would take it if they didn't like the fact that she wasn't into guys. But eventually she told them, Josie first, then the others and to her relief they all took it well, happy that she'd told them.
Cheryl hesitantly watched Veronica's reaction to the boy, Cheryl knew the boy was attractive, anyone could tell that and every time he came on the screen Val would always whistle or mutter a compliment to his beauty. Cheryl didn't mind it, in all fairness she loved the movie and the lead actress was gorgeous so she would gladly watch it more than six times. Cheryl felt her heart skip when Veronica didn't have the reaction to the guy as the other girls did, her face remained neutral until she averted her eyes from the film to take a hold of the other bowl of popcorn Cheryl had made for them both to share. Veronica shuffled back in her seat, making Cheryl quickly look away from her scared to get caught gazing and she felt a light jab in her side from Veronica, the brunette leaning closer to her.
"Want some?" She whispered, Cheryl turning to her not realising how close Veronica had gotten and her cheeks flushing red as they bumped noses, Cheryl letting out a light gasp, eyes flickering to Josie and the others to see if they'd noticed but they were glued to the male model on the screen. Cheryl was glad for the dim light, it was comforting knowing Veronica couldn't see her blush. "Sorry."
Veronica's quiet apology made her smile, bowing her head before looking back up to meet Veronica's mocha coloured eyes, a little laugh escaping Cheryl's lips. "It's fine, I...yeah I'd like some."
Veronica seemed thankful that Cheryl didn't react too badly to it. Cheryl took the bowl from her hands, placing it between them so that they could share and then returned her attention to the movie. Although now her mind was racing, she'd gotten so close to Veronica's lips, if Veronica had been any closer she was sure it would have been their lips that would have met rather than their noses. The thought made her heart leap, quickly side glancing Veronica to make sure she couldn't hear her thumping heart and thankfully Veronica was munching on popcorn, lost in the movie.Cheryl glanced down at Veronica's pyjamas as she'd done too many times tonight, Veronica was right, they were cute and Cheryl had to agree. They were almost identical to hers just Veronica's had lace and was red, it was strange that she was wearing purple and Veronica was wearing red; it was usually the other way around.
"What do you think of the movie?" Cheryl said, being as quiet as possible to not disturb the other girls but loud enough so that Veronica could hear.
Veronica paused for a moment, summing up how she felt about it. "The girls kind of hot, so it has me sold." Cheryl smirked at her words, taking up a handful of popcorn and popping them in her mouth one by one.
"It's the main reason I like watching it, Josie watches it because of the guy."
Veronica didn't respond for some time, she'd gone quiet and Cheryl wondered if she'd said something wrong. Veronica just stared at the screen her eyes occasionally darting to Cheryl, a little smile came across her lips finally, speaking up.
"I thought you'd be drooling over the guy." Veronica laughed softly, eating more popcorn as she crossed her legs, eyes meeting Cheryl's now, not bothering to watch the movie. Cheryl shrugged.
"I've never drooled over guys, you could say they're not drool worthy." Cheryl giggled, taking another handful of popcorn. Veronica chuckled at that too, Cheryl could see a little twinkle in her eyes before they fell to her lap. "I've had plenty of boyfriends though, but they were only to make mom think that I was into guys."
"So...your mom doesn't know?" Veronica asked, her attention fully on the redhead looking back at her now, dropping her gaze to her hands.
"My mom wouldn't accept it, my dad wouldn't either."
Cheryl hated the fact that her family didn't approve of it - love is love after all - but that didn't seem like the case in her family. Anything she did was wrong, and telling them the truth about her sexuality would only make them despise her even more. Jason had been the only family member she'd told, he'd supported her wholly, telling her she'd find a girl who loved her with all her heart soon enough, someone who'd take her away from the shit place she lived in.
"I never told my dad...I wasn't planning on telling my mom either," Veronica began, removing the pip in the popcorn in her hand. "But I was with this girl - it wasn't a long relationship, only a month or two - and I thought my mom was out of town, so I invited her over. My mom came in whilst we were making out and I eventually told her I was bi."
Cheryl listened with interest, "How did she react?"
"I'm not sure, she was supportive in a way I guess, she'd told me to tell my dad but I refused and I told her it wasn't her secret to tell." Veronica told her, she wasn't planning on telling her father anytime soon, he was like Cheryl's parents when it came to this sort of thing. He'd tell her she was going through a phase or that this was ridiculous, not matter how much he cared for her he'd disapprove of it. "My father would be ashamed to have me as his daughter if he knew, it's just the type of man he is."
"Why can't the world just accept it?" Cheryl sighed, she wasn't asking Veronica in particular, she was mostly just mumbling it to herself but Veronica answered anyway, looking just as confused.
"I don't know, it's not like we're doing anything wrong. In my opinion, it's beautiful because it's love and you only get genuine love a couple of times in your lifetime, why would you avoid it just because someone has told you it's wrong?" Cheryl smiled at how passionate Veronica was about it, she just wanted to hug the brunette and never let go, but she restrained herself from doing so. Veronica looked up seeing Cheryl's smile, seeing she agreed and she reached out for the redheads hand. Cheryl's heart almost stopping when Veronica took her hand, they were so soft and small that Cheryl was certain she could cover her hand over Veronica's and it would looked as though her hand wasn't there. "I'm glad to have found you, even if it was in this messed up little town."
Cheryl glanced at their hands, a warm smile scrawled across her lips, giving Veronica's hand a gentle squeeze before saying with the same amount of care. "I'm happy to have found you too."
