On the way back in Yoongi's car, I asked a question that had been lingering in my mind, "Yoongi, how did you know the person was cheating?" Yoongi led me straight to the cheater after speaking with the big contributors. He even pointed out to me precisely the method he was using.
"Because I planted the cheater there," Yoongi answered.
"You did?" I questioned in surprise.
"Yes. I know Han Gyeongseok does not think very highly of me, but I need him to give a good report of me back to Leader Kim. He is a ruthless man, and I knew ruthlessness will appeal to him. So planting the cheater can, one, show him I am up for the job, second, establish a name for us two for the gamblers."
"Very clever," I commented. "But why didn't you tell me when I asked what we were going to do in the casino?"
"Um..." he chuckled. "I guess I assumed that you will just go along with it, which you did perfe-"
"No, you are not a person to assume things," I said. "You are still not telling me the whole plan."
"I did. Remember when I-"
"No, stop. All you told me was how you plan to deal with Mr Ga. But what about Mr Han? And what about Leader Kim? And Yugyeom too. You never even told me how you would actually take control of the gang." More doubts that I had just poured out. "You are still testing me."
"Eunjung, please," Yoongi reached out a hand to grab mine that was resting on the car seat but I snatched it away.
I looked into his eyes and said, "Be honest: did you, or did you not mean to hide the plan from me, in order to test me?"
He looked away. "I... I'm sorry. I did."
My jaw clenched. A wave of bitterness swept through me like a flood. "...I appreciate you being honest." I then leaned forward and said to the chauffeur, "Stop the car."
The chauffeur looked unsurely at Yoongi through the mirror and Yoongi reluctantly nodded. I threw the door opened and exited his car. We stopped at the side of a road in the city area. I slammed it shut again and walked away on the pavement without looking back. I turned around and stared at the car as it drove away, the bitterness still not going away.
I was in front of a skyscraper and I walked to it to lean on one of the metal pillars. Looking up at the evening sky, which had no visible stars due to the light pollution in Korea, thoughts swirled around my head. I rubbed my bare arms as a gust of night wind blew. I knew I stood out, with the bright red dress I was wearing, but I couldn't care less about the passerby's judgemental or curious gazes.
"Eunjung?" A familiar voice called out from a car that was pulled up on the side of the road.
I stood up straight and looked at where it was from.
"Yugyeom?" I muttered in surprise. He quickly got off his car and jogged to my side.
"What are you doing here alone?" He asked, visibly worried for me.
