"For this research group project, you will be randomly paired with a person from class 3-B," the teacher announced to our class. "You will have to make a presentation on a given topic together. The reasons we are pairing across classes is because we want you to help them get a better understanding."
Sulgi and I exchanged a glance, and I could tell she knew what I was thinking. Min Yoongi and most of his gang were in that class. I silently hoped that I would not be paired with any of them. They were all obnoxious just like him.
"Alright, I will read out the list if paring now." Out teacher said and started to do so. I could tell that some girls that were paired with one of those guys from Min Yoongi's group were more than elated. I was dreading who my name was going to be read out with.
"Oh Eunjung, paired with Min Yoongi."
Oh Eunjung, paired with Min Yoongi.
Oh Eunjung, paired with Min Yoongi.
Oh Eunjung, paired with Min Yoongi.
That horror of a sentence echoed in my head. I could not believe out of the so many boys I could have been paired with, it had to be him.
I heard a few people whispering.
"...King and Queen of BAC together?"
"That is one hell of a good looking pair."
"Damn I wish I could join that group..."
"Alright now, class, go and get acquainted with your partner when you have time."
The bell rang and the class was dismissed into break. A few girls came over to me to either express jealousy or to congratulate me on my pairing, but I just sat there still in disbelief, barely responding to them.
"Oh Eunjung." A loud and clear voice rang across the classroom and silenced everyone. The one and only King of BAC was at the door of our class, smugly leaning against the doorframe.
I swallowed and stood up to walk to him. Everyone's attention was on us two.
"Min Yoongi, what do you want?" I asked coldly.
"Let's go get acquainted," he said while smirking.
I looked him up and down distrustingly, mentally trying to come up with whatever purposes he could have behind this.
"Come on Queen, don't look at me so suspiciously. I'm just doing what the teacher told us to do."
I reluctantly followed him out of the classroom. I could see the students that walked past us gossiping, most likely about us.
"So Queen, why do you never come to my parties?"
"And why do you keep on calling me Queen?" I questioned.
"Because you are known as the Queen of this school. And I am the King. Don't you think we are perfect for each other?"
I made a puking motion, "Me and you? That will never happen."
"Why do you hate me so much?" Yoongi asked, abruptly stopping in the middle of the corridor, drawing even more attention than we were before.
"Because you are way too arrogant for my taste," I replied.
"What I am is not arrogant," he slowly walked closer to me, and he knew I was too prideful back down. He only paused when our faces were a few inches away. "It's called confidence."
"Confidence?" I scoffed. I held his strong gaze as I said, "Fuck off."
"Oh, bad girl, I like it." He back away with a smirk. He nodded his head towards the school's cafe. "Come on, I'll treat you."
I only complied because I had to be so unfortunate as to be paired with him. Otherwise, I would've gone miles away from him already.
He took me to a table reserved for his 'popular group'. Without even asking for what I wanted, he ordered something for both me and himself. When he set down my favourite drink in front of me, I was surprised.
"How do you know I like this?"
He sat down opposite me. "Because you drink this every time you come here."
I raised an eyebrow. "I didn't think you paid attention to me."
"Oh come on," he laughed. "You are the agreed most beautiful girl in the school. Who wouldn't pay attention to you?"
I rolled my eyes again. I found myself rolling my eyes quite frequently whenever I was with him.
"So is this your idea of acquainting?" I asked. "By annoying me?"
"Only you would be so special as to be annoyed by me paying attention to you and calling you beautiful."
Now even I knew that was true. If any other girls in this school were in my position right now, they probably would've fainted out of joy already.
"Well, I'm not them," I said. "If you want to get acquainted with me, you need to try something else."
"Is that a challenge?" He leaned closer to me across the table.
"I'd like to see you try," I leaned back and crossed my legs. "And I have to warn you, this is quite the hard challenge."
He smirked. "Challenge accepted."
