After Charlie left, Castiel thought it would be nice to take Claire out to the park. He honestly couldn't stay and hide in the house forever. If he ran into Dean, so be it. He wasn't a coward.
At least he thought so, until he looked back at Claire to see her talking to the man himself.
Damn him if his life wasn't a living cliche.
The nice lady who was talking to him on the bench's attention was elsewhere, probably on her child, so Castiel stood up and slowly walked towards Claire.
Dean was gaping at him with slight...hurt in his eyes? Betrayal? It couldn't be that, they weren't together in this first place anyways. Castiel didn't know and didn't stare into his eyes long enough to find out.
"Papa, this is my friend Dean. Dean this is my papa Cas." Claire introduced them both. Oh Claire, naive clueless little Claire.
"Dean." Castiel curtly acknowledged him, instinctively pulling his daughter closer to him.
Dean folded his arms, opening and closing his mouth multiple times. He wanted to say something, congratulations? He has a beautiful daughter? Who's his significant other that helped produce this child?
"Um I-Cas...I don't know what to say." Dean started.
Castiel shook his head. "You don't have to say anything. Let's go Claire." Castiel took her hand and Claire pouted slightly. "Why now papa?"
He ignored her and turned around to go but Dean placed his hand on his shoulder to stop him. "Cas...I just want to talk-"
"There's nothing to talk about." Cas interrupted sharply.
Dean sighed. Same ol' stubborn Cas. "Please Cas." he pleaded, his voice almost breaking. Castiel's eyes softened a bit, but straightened his posture and put on a blank look. He wanted to say no, he wanted to tell Dean to fuck off and that they were through and didn't want anything to do with him.
But a part of him knew that wasn't true. Charlie and Gabriel's words echoed in his head. He did, have a soft spot for Dean and never really stopped loving him.
What did he have to loose?
"Okay," Castiel said slowly. There was relief and slight hope in his eyes, and a wave of guilt shot through him, "I-fine. We'll talk. Tomorrow at my place. I have work tomorrow but I get home at around five thirty-ish. You can come by then.
Dean tried not to beam to much. "Good, that's good."
"Do you need my number?" Castiel asked. He changed his phone number a lot when he and Dean broke up. It was childish, but he was afraid that if Dean called him again he would go right back into his arms-and into their toxic relationship.
Dean nodded and they switched phones, typing each other's numbers in it.
Castiel glanced to his side at Calire to realize she wasn't next to him anymore, and ran back to the playground. "Claire! Time to go!"
Claire groaned. "Papa!"
Castiel rolled his eyes playfully. "Fine, I'll leave you here and I'll go wash Randy at home."
