“Trying to write about love is ultimately like trying to have a dictionary represent life. No matter how many words there are, there will never be enough.”
– David Levithan, The Lover’s Dictionary
Loving someone is the most difficult job in the world. You don’t know whether you’ll get the profit of what you’re investing. LOVE. It is never in our will to love someone, it just happens. You don’t know how, you don’t know when, you don’t know why it just happens. But it is not in vain, it always happens for a reason, sometimes the reason is near and we identify it but sometimes the reason is very far and we think that we’ll die and a mountain of sadness has been brought upon us, and don’t realize that it will be better in future.
True love is hard to find but when found it is the best feeling in the world. True love never dies.
“The legacy just lives on.”
Prologue
I didn’t know what love was until I had finished reading my uncle’s diary. I never knew that true love could be that intense, that one could be so loyal to another person. It was after reading my uncle’s diary I came to know what true love really is.
We live in a world of instant make outs and instant breakups, in this cloud true love is hard to find. So when I read his diary it all seemed like a story to me and yet every ounce of it was true. My uncle used to say that true love never dies… the legacy just lives on. This sentence always confused me, what did he mean by legacy just lives on? But now I understand it. He was a very confusing person, always saying things which were hard to understand. I remember that he said to me once,
Deepest love is the biggest sorrow in the world...
Never love a person more than your life it will kill you a lot when you miss that person.
The things he said were always confusing, on one hand he was telling me about true love and on the other he was like asking me to stay away from love, what did it all mean? I never fully understood. He was a mysterious person and one day he disappeared like the wind leaving me his diary and his apartment. That’s when I started reading his diary and started to understand what he meant. I got to know the pain he went through, the chances he took, his passion and then what led to his plight. These all were the secrets I unraveled, the secrets he had long held, the reason behind his talks and advices, the reason behind his stern look but caring heart.
When I started reading his diary, I was mesmerized. It was like I was reading the diary of a complete stranger; like I didn’t know the person whose diary I was reading. My uncle was a jolly guy, sometimes he spoke things which I couldn’t understand but overall he was a great guy. But when I read his diary it was like I didn’t know that person, a person who was so jolly was badly broken from the inside but didn’t show it. A person who was scarred for life, who knew only one thing and that was to love and it was taken away from him. I had no idea that life could be so cruel; the one person who loved everyone was forced to cease his belief in love. But as my uncle used to say;
This is life; this is pain…
if no sadness, there’s no gain…
This is the universal law of life, to gain something you have to give something even if it pains you. In his case he gave a lot and didn’t receive anything in return…
