The gravestone read,
Aaron Kent
(1970 – 2014)
(Lover, father, friend and mentor)
“We are gathered here today to pay our last respects and farewells to Dr. Aaron Kent. We are privileged to live a life that has been touched in any way by Aaron Kent. He was a guy who would sacrifice his own happiness just to make someone smile, even for a moment. Dr. Aaron was a man of science and when a man of science dies, he is always remembered. I am privileged to be his student; I can never find a teacher better than him. He was and will always be my mentor. Even though he is not here with us today; but the flame of kindness that he ignited in our hearts will always remain. I; and my fellow doctors will always remember him, the man who made us into what we are today. As he always used to say, Become a good person and you will automatically become a good doctor. I am proud to say that I was an intern of Dr. Aaron Kent.”
Paul (one of Aaron’s intern from back in the day) left and sat back on his seat.
Ashlynn stood from her chair, walked forward and stopped in the front. And she started speaking,
“Aaron and I met in high school and we became best friends. He was the best guy one could ask as a friend. As his fellow doctors said that he sacrificed his happiness just to see smile on other’s faces. Who would know about this quality better than his selfish best friend?”
A tear streamed down her face.
“Even though I was not a good friend to him, he was always around, always there for me. He made my life amazing and I am proud to say that Aaron Kent was once my best friend. The guy I loved but was too afraid to say.”
Shock appeared on Josie, Anne and Dr. Lambert’s face. But they were not the only one who were shocked; Aaron’s friends from high school carried no different expressions either.
Saying this Ashlynn resumed her position on the chair, every eye on her. She had confessed her feelings for him the first time, it felt like a heavy load which had been troubling her for many years was just lifted off her chest. She regretted everything but it was too late for regret. He was gone from her life and unlike before, now he would never come back. She was just left with a hollow space in her heart.
Finally Josie stood up. Her mind was confused. The past week had been enough of an emotional trauma for her. Before that she was a lively girl but her life story changed her.
She stood at the front and started speaking,
“I don’t know what to say. Uncle Aaron was like a dad to me, actually he was my dad. He raised me and he protected me. I still remember my first date last year. He created such a big fuss like any normal dad would do, with all the interrogation with my date and the curfew time. And him threatening my date that if he as much as lay a finger on me or hurt me in any way, he will find him and then kill him slowly but painfully. I still remember the fear in my date’s eyes.”
A smile spread across her face.
“Everyone is saying that they knew him but I can say that I knew him the best because he was my father and he was always there for me. My first love and my King. He was the one who would wake up all night if I got sick or even had a slight fever. He was the one who would listen to me all the time and still not get bored. Who would have a solution for my every problem. He will always be my idol. If asked what I would like to become in life, my answer will always be Aaron Kent; my dad. The one who would make me laugh so much that my stomach would hurt and when I used to say please stop, my stomach hurts; he would suddenly stop and get all worried and protective. He was my Dad, though we weren’t blood related but he did things for me not even someone related by blood would do.”
