Requested by Thewolf525 This is perhaps one of the longest chapters so far and arguably the best one I've done i think ;w; Decided to branch out with the soulmate AU idea and give a sort of different take on it so let me know if it's alright! I love doing AU's so if any of ya'll have other AUs you'd like to see feel free to pop in a request! :D (remember I can do a whole bunch of characters even the niche ones!)
With that being said I hope you all enjoy~!
- Ghost
You could still remember the day that you had finally caught a glimpse of that fated string, remembering vividly the emotions it sent flurrying within you the moment it had shown itself.
At first you hadn't noticed its presence at all, as most people of didn't, only feeling an odd twinge growing in frequency the longer your day seemed to go on and yet you had swiftly ignored it in favor of going about your school day as per usual. Of course whilst that was easy to ignore that blinding red string that soon blossomed within your vision was impossible to pass off.
There it had been, coiled protectively around your left ring finger as though it was claiming possession of you, its binding only tightening as your eyes trailed along it witnessing it stemming out across the hallway before promptly disappearing into the crowds of people; it was almost as though it was inviting you, begging you to follow its lead with every tug and pull of encouragement as only one emotion had taken hold of all of your thoughts.
Panic.
It felt as though your world had come crashing down on you the second you laid your eyes upon that string knowing that on its other end lay the person you were fated to spend the rest of your life with, and all you could do was grow even more anxious upon realizing that fact. Everyone around you revered with their soul strings would show themselves, throwing everything away in the process of finding the person who would ultimately determine their life and that alone terrified you - you were just a kid! This kind of thing was a tale for adults who had their futures as clear as day in front of them and if you had any possible say in it you wanted no part in that.
So you'd ran.
It was ridiculous to look back on, feeling foolish for going as far as you did but before you knew it you were changing schools not days later desperate to put the event behind you, sure that things would be just fine and you could finally rid that sould string from your thoughts for a much later time in your life. And for a while it had worked - you were back to your normal routine acting as though nothing had been out of the sorts in the first place, intent on simply focusing on your life rather than letting it be guided solely by some invisible thread of fate; you were sure that you would have your time in peace for a good few years before such a thing ever happened again.
Unfortunately that idea didn't last for as long as you had hoped as you soon came to find out.
You hadn't really wanted to go to the summer camp when you'd first learned about it, preferring to just stay at home rather than travel out to the middle of nowhere to learn about whatever you had been signed up for, but you wanted to let your family have some time to relax for a while so you agreed to it with little fuss on the matter, it's not like you'd be completely alone there anyway with so many new people to meet and even if things didn't end up going well your family was but a phone call away so being actually concerned about the trip wasn't on your mind. And so with that you'd found yourself carted away to this 'famed' Camp Campbell on the first day of your summer vacation, cooped up with some of the later arriving campers on the camp bus as you travelled to your destination.
You were sat next to a girl called Nerris for the entire ride there, a somewhat eccentric girl with a love for the world of fantasy if her elven mage outfit and avid chatter about games such as D&D were any indication and you found yourself getting along with her pretty well even if you didn't understand everything she was talking about at times. She definitely made the trip far less boring now that you had someone to talk to and you found yourself laughing as the pair of you joked and chatted to pass the time. You'd spoke briefly to some of the other campers nearby as well during the journey during particularly slow times of the bus trip - you'd said a few words of greeting to the girl in front of you when she wasn't messing with her skateboard, spoke to the boy behind you for a while about some kind of play he'd been trying to memorize since before he even got onto the bus and you even got the chance to say hello to the kid at the back who'd yelled thanks as you'd tossed his 'helmet' back over to him after it had rolled down the bus aisle.
