SEAN
So Felix finally gave in and hired someone to keep an eye on all his stuff. Apparently, he'd uploaded a video introducing his new production assistant but I was too busy heading over to his office to film to watch it. Social media was going crazy and I only hoped for the sake of this girl Felix's fans didn't rip her to shreds.
That's what happened to my last relationship, the fans and the negative attention got too much for Signe and she left me. I was heartbroken because I thought she was my other half and the girl I'd spend the rest of my life with. But then the fans continued to hound her even after I told them to leave her alone. Signe killed herself two months ago.
This would be my first upload since her death. I'd lashed out at my fans because I blamed them. But a part of me knew I was also to blame because I didn't do enough to protect her when we were dating and after the breakup.
I'm buzzed into the building and walk in a zombie like trance towards Felix's office, I knew the layout of this building like the back of my hand. However, I didn't account for a purple haired girl to walk out of one of the many doors lining the hallway and straight in front of me. It was too late for either of us to move out of the way so we collide head on.
"Shit!"
"Fuck!"
The two of us fall to the floor but I manage to angle my body so that I land hard on my back and the girl has a softer landing on top of me.
"I'm so sorry I should have been watching where I was going. You're Sean right."
The girl quickly clambers to her feet and offers me a hand up which I accept, she was blushing like crazy clearly embarrassed by the whole situation.
"I was in my own trance, it takes two to tango. I don't think I know your name."
The girl chuckles, "I'm Amanda the new production assistant."
I'd be lying to myself if I didn't think she was beautiful, but I quickly shake the thought from my head feeling guilty for forgetting Signe.
"I see you two have met, Amanda actually came up with the video we'll be filming today and I think you'll like it, Sean."
Felix pops his head out from around one of the other doors further down the hallway grinning like a mad man. Amanda scratches the back of her head.
"You two have fun but not too much fun. I'm going to get a head start on making sense of your messy schedule Felix."
Amanda disappears as does Felix. I wanted to know more about Amanda, maybe Felix could shed some light on the mystery purple haired girl. I follow after the Swede and enter his office where he was putting the final touches together for our video.
"Amanda seems nice, can't believe you hired someone normal."
Felix laughs, "She's a good person and an even better gamer. Turns out she's on Twitch and goes by the name MandaPanda."
I didn't watch much Twitch but Felix seemed very excited about Amanda. Maybe I'd check her out when I got home.
"I convinced her to make a YouTube channel earlier, I see big things for her. Maybe you can collab with her one day Sean."
I could already see the wheels turning in my friends head, he wanted me to be happy and I guess he wanted Amanda to be happy for whatever reason but trying to set us up wouldn't end well. I wasn't looking for another relationship anytime soon.
"Yeah, I guess I could, now tell me Swede what are we filming today?"
~After Video~
Halfway through filming Amanda creeps in and watches us which seemed to make Felix want to up the stakes which I had no problem with since apparently I was very good at flipping bottles.
Felix gets a call off Marzia and leaves the office. Amanda sits down scrolling through her phone reading the comments on Felix's introduction video. I sit down next to her and read some of the awful hate comments, fans could be cruel but Amanda wasn't showing anything on her face.
"Are you okay Amanda?"
"Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me Sean, or at least they don't hurt me anymore."
I was confused by what she meant but she slides her phone back into her pocket and stands up, the sleeve of her shirt rolling up revealing faded white cuts and one big scar across her wrist. What had she done to herself?
"Amanda—"
"I need some air," she cuts me off and runs out of the room. I guess it was a touchy subject.
Not wanting to leave her alone I follow after her, after what happened to Signe I didn't want Amanda meeting the same fate somewhere down the line.
I find her outside sitting on a wall staring at her arm, but she rolls down her sleeve when she sees me approaching.
"Felix told me what happened to Signe, I understand your pain Sean more than you may think. Here have my number, if you ever need to talk to someone who won't judge you call me day or night."
I take the folded piece of paper she thrusts into my hands. I hadn't spoken to anyone; I liked keeping things bottled up. Amanda was a neutral party, maybe she wouldn't judge me and my dark thoughts. Had she suffered lost? Had she lost someone close to her?
"So this is where the party is, do you guys want to grab some food?"
Felix joins us and Amanda plasters on a fake smile, I was also the master of fake smiles.
"Yay food!" she squeals, fist pumping the air.
Felix leans over and ruffles her hair, "food is always good. You in Sean?"
As much as I wanted to go home and lock myself away from the world again having lunch with Felix and Amanda would be a step in the long road of recovery.
"What are we waiting for? To quote Amanda 'yay food'."
Amanda shoots me a knowing look while Felix was unaware of our private conversation. Today was a good day.
