SEAN
It was the day before the tour kicked off and I was talking to Robin over the phone about my new upload schedule while I was away. Someone knocks on the front door so I say goodbye to Robin and shuffle towards the front door not expecting any visitors.
"Hello...Mark..."
Mark was stood on my doorway with his suitcase behind him taking me by surprise. His flight wasn't due in until tonight because I was driving Amanda to the airport to pick him up even if he'd been cold towards her. Yes, Amanda had shared her last Skype call with Mark and I was fuming.
Mark scratches his head, "I guess you weren't expecting me to show up on your doorstep Sean. Can I come in, please? We need to talk."
I move aside and motion for Mark to come inside interested in what he had to say to me. Mark enters my flat and leaves his bags in the hallway before following me into the living room. We sit down on opposite sofas in an awkward silence.
Mark clears his throat, "I'm just going to come out and say it, Sean, I'm sorry for how I've acted around you and the accusations I've made about you and Amanda."
I'm taken by surprise because apologising was very hard for Mark to do. I didn't know he thought I was seeing Amanda behind his back until she told me about the Skype call. I wondered why my friend had been distant and cold towards me.
"Why would I do that to you, Mark?"
He sighs, "You remember Amy my ex, the reason that relationship ended was that I found her sleeping with one of my close friends. I thought she loved me when she didn't and I guess I assumed it could happen again. But you can't blame me for my suspicions."
I raise an eyebrow, "sorry to hear about Amy, but what did I do to make you suspicious?"
Mark shoots me a 'you know' look, "just how close the two of you, and how whenever you call or message her Amanda drops what's she's doing even if it's during a Skype date. Then when I try to talk to her, she says she can't say anything unless you tell her to."
Okay now, I kind of felt bad, because I might take Amanda's friendship for granted sometimes. Amanda was a kind soul and wanted to please everyone, so when I was feeling down she dropped everything to make me smile. I didn't know she was skipping out on Mark. Well, at least I knew Amanda hadn't told Mark about my dark suicidal thoughts.
"I never knew she was skipping Skype dates, Mark. I'm sorry about that."
Mark nods, "tell me one thing to stop my suspicions, Sean. Do you or did you have any romantic feelings towards Amanda at any point?"
Now, Mark, had me caught like a deer in headlights and my sudden silence must have sparked something because Mark clenched his fists. I guess it was time to make a confession of my own.
"After Signe, I didn't think I'd ever meet a girl who could replace her and make me smile again. Then Amanda came along and understood me, she pulled me out of my slump and helped me cope with my feelings and integrate back into society. She's a safety blanket of sorts and maybe at a point, I confused friendship for potentially something more."
Mark unclenches his fists, "do you still have romantic feelings towards her Sean?"
I shake my head and raise my hands in surrender, "no, she's a good friend and nothing more. I swear Mark, you have nothing to worry about."
"Does she know about your feelings?"
I bow my head, "after she told me about the Skype call I confessed and told her. We talked things out and luckily we're still friends because she understood I was confused with everything going on in my life."
MARK
Hearing Sean confess and then explain himself made me feel better, now I knew there was some truth behind my suspicions even if it was one-sided and Amanda was unaware of Sean's growing feelings.
"How do I make it up to Amanda? I want to do something before the tour starts."
Sean laughs, "Cutting it kind of thin Mark, we get on the tour bus tomorrow and the first tour date is Monday. You might be on your own with this one, the apology needs to come from you."
Great, now I had more work to do. Then an idea pops into my head that might just work, "do you know where she is today?"
Sean smiles, "she's doing some last minute work with Felix at the office all day I think. Why?"
I know what I needed to do to make things right between me and Amanda, I was going to pull out all the stops. Now I just needed to get Felix on board with my plan.
CHAT
Mark: I need your help man
Felix: What do you need? Shouldn't you be getting ready to board a plane?
Mark: I flew in this morning and I'm at Sean's. I wanted to explain myself to Sean and now we're good again
Felix: So what do you need me to do?
Mark: Sean said Amanda's at the office with you. Can you keep her busy so I can plan my apology at her flat?
Felix: Good luck and I'll see what I can do. How much time do you need?
Mark: A few hours. Will message you when you can let her go
END OF CHAT
"I'm going to go and put my apology into plan. Do you have a key to Amanda's flat?"
Sean looks at me suspiciously but fishes his keys out of the bowl on the coffee table and takes off one of the keys which I assumed was Amanda's. It should have bothered me that he had one, but then again I lived in LA and had no reason to have one.
"Don't make me regret giving you this key Mark. But good luck mate."
