7. Back to the field

BACK TO THE FIELD

As we walk through the New York streets, we constantly stop whenever Peter sees something of interest, immediately pointing his camera to capture it.

In the distance, a Spider-Man cut out gets my attention, and while Peter is distracted, I walk ahead and pose next to it, snapping a picture in the process.

"Wait up." Peter says lowering his camera, laughing when he sees what I'm doing.

"What?" I innocently ask.

"Nothing." He says slightly shaking his head.

"Heyyyy! How come you don't ask me in person to take a picture?" He asks with a pout, making me smile as I signal for him to come into the frame, snapping another pic as a souvenir.

"Does this count?" I ask.

"Eh, sort of." He says walking a few feet away to take a picture of something else.

I'm about to follow but something makes me stop in my tracks, quietly taking out my phone to take a picture without him noticing. I'm not sure what it is, but there is something in this moment that just makes me want to capture a fraction of it.

Maybe it's the way the sun is lighting up his brown curls giving them a golden glow, or the way he looks so comfortable snapping pictures, his tongue slightly peaking out as he focuses, his hands carefully adjusting the lense.

"You coming?" He asks, breaking me out of my thoughts.

"Uh, yeah. Coming!" I say hurrying over, looking at the concrete floor to avoid eye contact.

As we continue our walk, we both feel our phone vibrate, exchanging a surprised glance as we reach for our devices.

"Did you just?"

"Get a mission?" I finish. "Yes. You?"

"Me too." He says with a smile.

"Does this mean we're doing a mission together?"

"Looks like it." He says safely storing everything in his backpack. "We better hurry over before it's too late."

When we arrive, agent Coulson is waiting for us. "Glad you could make it." He says turning to face us. "Your mission is simple. Get as much information as you can from these Hydra agents. Both of you have been assigned to this mission but be careful, only come in if it's necessary." He says turning to Peter.

"Yes sir."

"Alright!" Peter says giving me a fist bump as soon as Coulson leaves.

"Let's do this." I say with a smile.

Before we get going, Peter takes out his phone, snapping a picture before I have any time to react.

"What are you doing?" I question trying to cover my blushing cheeks.

"Taking a picture Nessa, come on." He says shaking his head.
