23. Back to work

Much like the team expected, as soon as they come back from their brief retreat, a mission awaits them.

"It's hydra." Tony says. "They are attacking the city and they need us to come in to protect the civilians."

"Right." Natasha says with a nod. "Let's get back to work boys."

"Has anyone seen the kids?" Tony asks, the team responding with a shrug.

"They probably went on a date or something." Clint says taking a sip of his drink. "What?" He says with a shrug when the team turns to look at him. "Don't tell me you didn't see them hanging out together while we were away."

"Not the time Clint." Natasha says shaking her head.

"In any case, I'll go get them." Tony says going ahead of the team. "I'll meet you at the location."

"Copy that."

Tony does a quick scan of the city with FRIDAY'S help as he flies out of the compound, letting out a sigh of relief when he spots them nearby.

"Kids!" Tony shouts as he approaches. "Duty calls. I need you to suit up."

Before they have any time to process what he said, he flies past them, bringing them back to their senses as their watches beep with an incoming message.

"Where do we change?" Peter asks scanning the nearby buildings as they run.

"I can open a portal if you want, that way no one sees us." Vanessa offers.

"Deal."

Without another second, she opens a portal back to the tower, where they start suiting up as soon as they cross.

"Are you done?" She asks, smiling when Peter joins her side. "Alright, I'll take us to the location."

As soon as they cross the portal, Peter stops on his tracks and lifts his hands to his face.

"Wait! I forgot my mask!"

"What?" Vanessa says raising a brow.

"It should've been with the suit." He says in a panicked tone.

"Looking for this?" A familiar voice says.

"A-aunt May?" Peter says, clearly shocked by the unexpected events. "Umm, I-I can explain." He says exchanging a glance with his friend who is also wearing a suit.

"Don't worry about Peter, we can talk later." She says throwing his mask which he successfully catches.

"Hi Vanessa." Aunt May greets with a smile.

"H-hi Aunt May." She shyly says with a wave of her hand.

"Please be careful."

"You as well May." Peter says giving her a quick hug.

"Nessa can you?" He starts but the girl is already opening a portal.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure she gets home safely."

"Thanks. I owe you one." He says taking off to join the rest of the Avengers, the girl following suit once her side mission is accomplished.

"Tony we're here." Vanessa says into the comm.

"Good. Glad you could join the party." He says with a grunt. "You know what to do."

"On it." Peter says, throwing his friend a look when he notices her suit.

"That's your suit?" He questions.

"Yes." Vanessa answers looking down at her outfit. "Why? Does it look bad?"
