I am getting more and more scared as the days pass. Whenever I hear a knock at the door I think it’s the Army saying Harry has been killed or wounded in action. I am coping with work and everything, just thinking about the next time I see him. Will it be at his funeral? Will it be next to his bed in hospital? Will be it safely in my arms? I am hoping for the latter. Just then, William breaks my thoughts, hands me a letter and sits next to me. “I think you may need a hug at the end,” he whispers to me. I open the letter, reluctant, but anxious at the same time. It read,

‘Hey baby. Hope you are well. I know you are, because I would have known if you weren’t. There’s only 2 months until I come home. I hate it here. I really do. No is the time when I need to be safe, at home, in your arms, where I belong. I won’t lie, it’s tough out here. All I do is try to picture you in my head as much as I can. I really miss you Soph, and right now, I would do anything to be back in your arms again.

The fighting is getting really bad out here now. Every day the insurgents are getting closer and closer to Camp Bastion. I am still in the air at the moment, but in the next few days they will need as many foot soldiers as possible. I’m sorry babe, but I will have to become one. I know now that I’ve told you, all you’ll do is worry, but I had to tell you Soph. If I can’t be honest to you now, then when can I, eh?

I’m so sorry the letter is so short, but I don’t have much time between shifts, and I need some sleep. I will be home soon. I miss you baby, so much its unreal. The only thing that is driving me forward is the prospect of seeing of in 2 months’ time. Please try not to get too upset. I’ll be home soon. I love you baby girl. Words cannot describe how much.

                                                                                Love you forever.

                                                                                Your Harry xxxxx’

William was right. I needed a hug. I knew that something bad was going to happen to Harry soon. I could just feel it. While William and I were sitting on the sofa, locked in a brother and sister hug, the doorbell rang. Catherine answered it and called for me to come to the door. Standing there were 2 men. Dressed in Army uniform. I knew one of them, it was Harry’s captain. I knew what was next, well I thought I did.
