"What the fuck was that?"

"He's under a lot of stress." Penny sighed, taking her seat across from Carl once again.

"Yeah, well, he's not the only one." He huffed. "I didn't kill anybody, pen. I didn't."

"Okay," She nodded lightly, "but you know that we have to finish the investigation."

"You really want me to tell you the whole story of a case that you were with me on?"

"No, I don't find that approach helpful." She said as she opened the case files once again.

"Clearly David does." Carl said, glaring through the window to his right, knowing that David was standing on the other side, despite not being able to see through it.

"David is no longer running this case."

"Wai-what?" Carl furrowed his brows, "You're running the case?"

Penny shook her head. "Maxx."

"M-Maxx?"

"Maxx."

"Maxx has never run a case." Carl whispered, even though he knew that wouldn't stop Maxx from hearing him from the other side of the window.

"Maxx is running this case." Penny repeated quietly. "It'll go quicker."

That was when Carl began to understand; without david running things when he's being particularly uncooperative with the team, Carl would be in the clear much faster. Penny didn't believe for a second that Carl had anything to do with the killing of Mr. Meyer, and he was quite sure Maxx didn't think so, either.

"Can you tell me about the first personal interaction you had with Mr. Meyer?" Penny asked, her voice much more confident now.

"I, uh- yeah." He cleared his throat. "It was at his initial arrest in New Mexico."

Carl sighed, leaning back in his seat. He wasn't particularly happy to have his friends interrogating him, but he'd defiantly have a forgiving Penny questioning him rather than an angry David.

"Gallagher, go around back." David whispered, as he and Penny approached the front door with some of the local PD, all with guns held ready in their hands.

Carl ran around back, then slowed as he approached the back door. He pressed his back to the wall beside it before quickly pushing the door open and turning to either side, gun pointed straight out.

Upon seeing nothing but an empty room, Carl quietly walked over to the next door, repeating the same actions as he did with the first one. This time, though, he was greeted by the sight of a woman, with her hands bound above her head, across from a much smaller, quite terrified little girl, tied to a chair.

The woman immediately began to yell out for help, her voice muffled by the gag placed between her lips. Carl shushed her as he rushed over to free her hands.

"It's okay, you're alright." He comforted in a quiet tone as the woman collapsed into him. He lifted her up and walked across the room to her daughter, quickly setting the woman down to free the small child in front of them.

"Mommy!" The girl immediately ran into her mother's arms, both of them crying.

"Are you guys oka-"

"Oh, look here," Carl heard a dark chuckle from behind him. "We've got a hero."

Carl quickly turned around, pointing his gun at a man stood in the doorway, holding his own gun out in the same way.

"Put down the gun, Meyer." Carl warned, moving his stance to stand protectively in front of the small child and her mother.

"You've really ruined my plans for the day," he chuckled darkly, "I've gotta say, that doesn't make me too happy."

"It's over now, man. Put the weapon down so we can make this go as smooth as possible."

"Mm, smooth?" He asked. Carl nodded. "Smooth, okay. Sure."

He dropped his gun to the floor. Just as Carl lowered his, Meyer charged at him, pushing him to the ground and climbing on top of him, quickly delivering punches into his face.

"Is this smooth enough for you, agent..." he trailed off as he took Carl's badge from him and opened it up. "Gallagher?"

He threw the badge across the room and looked back down at Carl with wild eyes, then quickly jerked his body to dog his knee into Carl's ribs. Carl cried out as a loud snapping sound emitted in the room.

"Just how smooth was that?"  He asked with a maniacal chuckle.

Carl responded by flipping them over, now sitting above the man who had just cracked his rib in two, delivering his own punches this time.

"Gallagher?!" He heard David yell from the other room.

"In here!" Carl yelled, and less than 30 seconds later, Meyer was being ripped up from the ground and handcuffed.

"And that's the last night I saw him."

"And the last night you talked to him?" Penny asked. "Other than in this building, with us?"

"Yeah, when he called me." Carl nodded as David walked into the room. "Are we done?"

Penny nodded, but David quickly interrupted. "Actually, no."

"No?" He furrowed his eyebrows.

"There's another issue."

"What issu-" Carl stopped when he heard Rylee yelling in the hallway. "Rylee?"

He stood up and rushed past David, into the hallway.

"Ry?" He quickly walked over to her in the hallway, where she was stood, crying, next to Maxx. "Baby, what's wrong?"

"I can't find Will." She cried, burying her head in his chest.

"W-what?"

"Will is missing."
