"And that's all he said?"
"I hung up on him." Carl mumbled, looking down as he sat with his friend and coworker, David.
"You hung up?" He asked, eyes snapping up towards Carl, "We need all we can get, man, you've gotta listen if he calls."
"I know, I just panicked." Carl sighed, "I didn't want to hear it anymore."
"It's the job, man, it's just-"
"He was talking about shooting my son, David." Carl snapped, "That's not the job."
"Alright, Gallagher, let's just figure out what he wants." David said, ignoring Carl's outburst to continue their investigation.
"Daddy, look at what Penny gave me." Will stumbled into the room, holding up a small book in Carl's direction.
"That's great, buddy." Carl said without looking at it, "why don't you go wait with mommy and Penny."
"Are you analyzing the subject?" Will asked, looking at David now.
"The suspect?" He chuckled, "Yeah buddy, we are. Want to help?"
Carl's eyes snapped up at David, giving him a stern look as Will nodded his head quickly and ran to the other side of the table. David lifted him onto his lap, and flipped some pages in his case notes.
"Where should we start?" David asked.
"We start when he was a kid." Will said quietly.
"That's right, what do we need to know?"
"Need to know about his mommy and daddy." Will mumbled, "And if anything scary or sad happened."
"Very good." David nodded.
"That's it?" Will looked up.
"That's where we start."
"Did it?" Will asked him, receiving a confused look in return.
"Did it what?"
"Did something scary or sad happen?" Will asked.
"It did." David nodded after a short pause.
Will gasped, sounding more excited than upset. He still thought of these cases he 'worked on' with David like the exciting action he sees on TV. "What was it?"
"It was-"
"David." Carl snapped, "enough."
"I wanna work the case, daddy." Will whined.
"Not this case, will." Carl told him, "Go find mommy okay?"
"But, I wanna-"
"William. Go sit with your mother, right now." Carl said sternly.
Will's face fell, and he sighed before hopping down from David's chair, slowly walking around the desk.
"Fine." He mumbled, walking out the door, slamming it when he left.
"Awesome." Carl sighed, leaning back in his chair, "First I've got a fucking murderer after him, and now he's mad that I won't tell him all about it."
"I think he's just bored." David shrugged, "He doesn't seem to know what's going on."
"He's barely four years old, of course he doesn't know what it means to have a serial killer following him." Carl snapped, his annoyance becoming more and more prominent.
"Alright, Carl." David sighed, looking up from the notes. "I get it, okay? This sucks and you want to fix it, but nothing's going to get fixed if you don't give me all of the information I need."
