Rose
After Mira's bomb drop, Rose found herself laughing uncontrollably, because this had to be a joke. Right? But no one else laughed with her, and by the sober looks on their faces, Rose actually found herself contemplating if they were being serious or not.
That's how Rose found herself seated at the dining room table, where Mira brought her a package of crackers, Felix brought her the green fuzzy blanket from the couch, and Caius did a second quick check for any unnoticed damage. Why does everything happen in this dining room?
After giving Rose a few minutes to settle down, the others all took a seat at the table and, now that they knew Rose wasn't in danger of keeling over, got all the details from Damian of what exactly had happened. Unfortunately for Rose, they spoke in such secret ways that Rose had no idea what was going on.
"To fully understand what we are about to tell you, I must start from the very beginning." Caius said slowly, as if to let the words sink in. But Rose didn't understand what he was trying to tell her simply because she had no clue was this or the beginning was.
"And when exactly was the beginning?" Rose asked slowly. She'd finally caught her breath and the shaking in her body had almost completely subsided. Rose also had a feeling she didn't want an answer to that question, or any other questions she might have in the next few minutes.
"About 3,000 years ago."
Roses mind instantly blanked. Is he serious? Looking around the room Rose examined the expressions of everyone around the table and realized that yes, he was indeed serious. A short strangled laugh escaped through her throat.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Rose asked in disbelief, her eyes scanning over the room once more to take in all of the others reactions. "What the hell is this?" Rose was way too tired and freaked out to deal with any jokes they possibly had in store for her.
Felix—in true Felix manner—simply let out a small giggle, but quickly muffled it with his hand when Damian shot him a hard stare. Mira's eyes narrowed, showing her irritation, but she otherwise hid it well. Caius simply remained stone faced as always.
With another quick glance back at Damian, Rose was graced with an unwavering and very scary glare. What happened to the concerned Damian who was trying to comfort her in the car after they both nearly died? He remembered he hated you, Rose.
"Just stop. She's not ready." Damian growled, ripping a hand through his hair in frustration. It took all of Rose's strength to not reach across the table to calm that hand and tame his wild hair.
Stop! She scolded herself. Why the hell am I so obsessed with this man?
"What the hell do you mean she's not ready?" Mira screeched, her small palms splayed out on the wooden table in a sure sign of the frustration she was trying hard to keep in check. "She was just attacked by a damn Daímonas for Christ's sake, and it wasn't the first time. It's about time we tell her."
Attacked. Daímonas. Rose had heard all of this before. Her head was beginning to swirl, even more ferociously than it did before, and after, she fainted. Focus, girl.
With a quick steadying breath, Rose braced herself and spoke up. "Does this have anything to do with the conversation you guys were having the other morning?" The words came out level and composed. Rose flicked her gaze around the room, carefully reading the others reactions.
"What are you talking about?" Points for Mira for keeping her voice level, but Rose could see the shock in her gray eyes.
Rose leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms, an unsteadying coolness taking over her. She welcomed the strength and bravery, but knew it was short lived and was probably going to end in another hysteric breakdown. "'We need to take her to mother.'" Rose quoted Mira.
