Rose

"Run, Rose!"

Damian's voice yelling from behind her was doing the complete opposite of motivating Rose.

Her body was drenched in sweat, her breathing heavy and uneven, her legs were screaming to give them a break, her pony tail kept whipping the side of her face, and her feet were so tired that they kept dragging on the treadmill, almost causing Rose to fall right on her face more than once.

"I've been running for almost an hour. Give me a damn break." Rose gasped out, gripping the top of the treadmill as she tried to support the sinking weight of her upper body.

"You need to build up your stamina before you can do any sort of training. I'll let you stop when you collapse."

And he meant it. When Rose's right foot slipped just an inch too much, gripping to the treadmill and causing her to almost completely fall down, that was when Damian finally let Rose stop. She stumbled off the machine, resting her hands on her thighs as she gasped for air.

"Stretch your whole body then you can go jump in the shower." Damian barked out his last instructions before leaving the small gym. He was clearly disgusted with the fact that Rose was only able to run for 1 hour 17 minutes and 12 seconds. She thought that was pretty good since she'd never run before in her life.

When Damian told Rose yesterday that she would start training, she thought it would be some badass, supernatural, earth moving magic training. Instead, he dragged her to a small gym in the basement that Mira never showed her on the initial house tour (she didn't even know this place had a basement), and pointed at the treadmill.

Apparently being literally made from the blood of gods didn't help with her fitness, because after only fifteen minutes of running it was hurting to breathe. Damian promised it would get easier, that her stamina would increase faster than mortals due to her magic, but as Rose sat on the ground feeling like she had just been run over by a convoy of dump trucks, she seriously doubted that promise.

Rose plopped down on the mat flooring, sticking her legs out in front of her, beginning her stretches. She was just pushing herself off the ground after stretching out her entire body when Mira's small frame walked through the door.

"I figured you'd need this." She said, handing Rose a bottle of water with a knowing smile.

"You're a saint." Rose sighed, taking the plastic bottle and unscrewing the cap. She almost groaned in pleasure when the cold water slipped down her throat and pooled in her burning stomach.

"My brother's workouts can get a bit intense." Mira laughed, looking Roses sweaty body over. Rose just rolled her eyes as she continued to gulp down the water. "But he knows what he's talking about." Mira continued. "You need to have a good fitness foundation before you can start doing serious fighting and using your powers."

"It still sucks." Rose huffed, swallowing the last mouthful of water and screwing the cap back on the empty bottle before throwing it in a nearby trash can.

"I know it does. But I have a nice Damian Diet approved dinner waiting for you in the kitchen. So, go shower and meet me there."

Rose thanked Mira before following her up the stairs, then continuing to the bedroom. Rose had spent last night there, and honestly preferred it over her own apartment. She loved the idea of having housemates, and she knew with everything that had been going on—is going on—she was much safer there rather than alone. But as much as Mira wanted her to move in, Rose wasn't ready to completely say goodbye to her one personal space.
