The door closed, and all that could be heard was the steady beep of the heart monitor. It made Alexander grow drowsy. He hadn't slept all night, as he had been too caught up dreaming of being by Thomas's side again. Now that he was here, he honestly just wanted to get in the bed and cuddle the tall, sleeping man until he fell asleep.

But, this wasn't some dramatic love story, he doubted he could get himself into the bed without tangling himself in his or Jefferson's IV, or even stand steadily by himself for that matter. So, he'd have to settle with lying his head on the sheets and grasping Thomas's cold hand tightly.

Just as he began to close his eyes and doze off, he heard loud, panicking sirens. His head shot up, giving him mild whiplash as his eyes met the heart monitor.

The line was flat, instead of the steady spikes it had once been. He gasped as doctors rushed in, cardiac defibrillator on a cart behind them.

"What? No. Thomas? No, please." Alex whispered as the doctors pulled Jefferson's hospital dress up. The defibrillator buzzed readily and made it's speedy diagnosis of how high the electricity should be.

"Clear!" The doctor yelled, pushing the electric pads to Jefferson's chest. Thomas jolted upwards and fell back into the bed with a thump, scaring Hamilton. Alex sobbed, pushing against the bed and rolling away into the wall a second later. He couldn't bare to be this close to him if he was dying.

The doctors waited for a moment.

Nothing.

"Turn it up a few volts." The doctor ordered.

"Clear!"

Another thump.

Alex sobbed again, a strangled scream ripping from his throat.

"Again!"

"Clear!"

Thump.

Nothing.

"He's not waking up. He's not waking up. Why aren't you waking up? Oh, Thomas, please." Alex begged through his tears, watching in terror.

"Again, clear!"

Thump.

Then, a loud beep. Followed by another beep.

And another.

And another.

Thomas was opening his eyes slowly, squinting up at the bright light. The doctors shut down the defibrillator joyously.

"He's alive!" The doctor who had been restarting Thomas's heart exclaimed, and the other doctors congratulated her as they left the room. Alex turned the right wheel of his wheelchair forward, his other hand too injured to push.

"Thomas?" He asked quietly.

Thomas's head turned slightly towards him. "Alexander?"
