One Year Later...

Annie's POV

It's been a year. A slow and painful one at that. Everything that had happened was...something I never wished to experience again. It was filled with so much...sadness and stress. Just thinking about what some others had to go through sent a shiver down my spine.

So far, O'Khasis had been pretty quiet. Nothing really happened, it being one of the more secure and guarded places in the region. Yes the guards still...well...guarded. That's what they were hired and paid for. They did great, perhaps perfect, at their jobs. Not a single thief has gotten away, nor any people who would or could cause harm were let in.

So when I saw a shady figure leaving O'Khasis, I mentally freaked out.

How did we get here, one may ask.

Well, it started when we had gotten home from the patrol. Sure it was almost the end of winter and all and the days seemed shorter, but they were still the same time. So, when we got home it was with the sun setting.

Kaitlyn had almost instantly left when I had gotten to my house, which was a slight surprise. Most of the time she would have stayed to bake or something of the like.

Her house wasn't really that far away from mine, maybe three minutes away, but she still practically lived in mine, with how much she stayed over and practically devoured my kitchen.

I stayed out longer, looking around at the village that I had to become reaccustomed to. Glancing around, most people had already gone inside for the night, candles and lamps alike lighting open windows, few people were wandering the streets.

Reaching into the pocket of my leather jacket, not to be mistaken with the one Eli gave to me, I pull out a letter. It was thin, a single paper inside filled with parchment. It was the last letter i had received from Eli a mere few months ago. Even though I kept writing to him, he never replied. I guess he's moved on, I'm glad for him. I sigh as I read it again, reading every word slowly and with affection.

Dear An,

Hey.It has been a while since the last time we talked! I hope all is well with you. I'm fine here. Do you know if you're going to be stationed here again soon? Hopefully so, I can not wait to see you again! What have you been doing? Trish is still locked up, in case you were wondering. Anyway, I should probably go. Please write back soon!

Love you, Eli.

I smile softly, folding it neatly and placing it in my pocket once more. It was confusing at first, mostly about why he had never wrote me back. But eventually, I let it go and moved on. Surely he has if he isn't responding to my letters anymore.

Opening my door with a swift turn of the knob I am once again within my house. It was more of home. It somewhat reflected me, at least, I thought so. I glance around the room, giving it a one over.

The carpet was a nice light brown color and oh so soft to the touch. Walking on it was like flying in heaven. Around the rug were a few couches. They were worn, but in a good homey way. One would sink into them if they sat on it.

Next to it was a simple kitchen, one I take nothing from as I make my way to the stairs. There were not many and were easy to climb, so I'm up in my room in an instant.

It was quite, a nice and calming type that fills one with peace. Humming a tune, I place my bow against the wall and make my way to the window.

It had start snowing during the time I came in. Placing my hand outside, I feel as many tiny snowflakes land on my hand and melt at touch.
