Annie's POV
I feel a warmth hit my face. The pain returns, not as bad. But still... it hurt like hell.
I was waking up, that was a fact.
I'm not dead... that's good to know.... again.
My eyes open, slowly, the light blinding me momentarily as I close them once more. I slowly open them once more and allow them to adjust to the lighting. After a few moments, I see the completely white ceiling of the infirmary. The last time I was here still felt so recent in my mind.
More mutters and mumbles fill the room, still not clear enough for me to hear of course. With my vision clearing up, I can finally see the ceiling and the ridges of the textures in it clearly. I feel the soft sheets beneath my back as I look down to see that I'm now in a red t-shirt and some sweatpants. I feel a tightness around my stomach area and look to see bandages wrapped from the center of my torso to my hips. Vylad's boots sit at the edge of the bed, me tearing up as the memories of what happened come flooding back to my mind as I see them.
It all had happened so quickly that I didn't even have time to react, to comprehend what had happened.
The world around me is still fuzzy, and the voices in the room are still not clear enough to hear. I close my eyes as I take a deep breath and shift my head so it's laying further back on the pillow.
I wince, as the pain returns full force, shooting from my stomach up to my head and down to my toes. So much for feeling better, I think to myself. I soon hear footsteps walking over, quite quickly, to where I'm lying as the audio around me starts to clear up. I soon realize that the room is quiet besides the quiet click of the soles of shoes hitting the ground as someone walks over to me. They approach my bed and smile, small wrinkles forming on her face from the corners of her mouth and eyes. Her black hair is pulled back from her face revealing her light blue eyes. It was mom. She smiles as she takes my hand in hers, tears streaming down her face like rivers. I squeeze her hand as I look up at her.
I try to say something but no sound escapes my mouth. This freaks me out.
"Thank Irene you're okay," she says as she sits down on a chair that was beside the bed, scooting it closer to the edge of the bed before running her free hand through my hair.
I try speaking again, my words coming out as an inaudible whisper. I take a deep breath and try a third time.
"H-how long w-was...I-I out?" I mutter, my voice hoarse and unrecognizable as mine, speaking was painful as my throat was dry.
She seems to understand what I was saying.
"A couple of days," she says as she runs a hand through my hair once more, somehow knowing the confusion going through my brain.
My eyes widen. A couple of days?!
I look at the window to see Katelyn outside of it, speaking to Jeffrey.
"K-Katelyn?" I say, in an almost normal speaking voice, it still hoarse, most likely from screaming and my extremely dry throat.
"Mmm, she is your friend, correct? She hasn't left the infirmary since you were brought here," she says looking out the window that Katelyn was outside of.
Katelyn looks in, her eyes widening when she sees me. She looks over to my mom who nods, motioning her in with her hand.
"I'll let you two talk for a moment," mom says as she smiles and walks out of the room.
Katelyn hurries in, flakes of snow were clear in her light blue hair. I try to sit up only resulting in a sharp pain causing me to let out a wince. I steady myself with my hands as I push myself into a sitting position as I look at her.
