One week later....
Annie's POV
"Katelyn! I-I'm sorry!"
"Sorry is... sorry isn't just going t-to help him!"
"I-I know... b-but you need to calm down!"
Bang!
Katelyn hits the table with force, only seconds pass by before she's recoiling in pain. She was mad, that much was obvious, but, so was I.
We had gotten the news earlier that day.
Jeffrey had been caught trying to free the prisoners.
Well, to be more exact, he was caught after he freed the prisoners, which was even worse.
Zane was holding a private trial for him when he got back.
We only had a week to save him before it was too late.
Reasoning was pointless, and bailing him out with force would be impossible.
"What are we going to do Annie! You know what will happen if Zane finds him guilty!"
"Guilty or not he's screwed if we don't get him out of this!" I snapped, few tears streaming down my cheeks.
"An...? A-are you okay?" Katelyn asked, calming down quickly, a look of worry putting her hand on my shoulder.
"N-no," I said, starting to cry.
Without hesitance, she grabs me into a hug, tears soaked up by her shirt as we stood there for minute of two. As she let me go, I wipe the tears away from my tear stained cheeks. What startles us is a knock at the door. Taking a glance at Katelyn, I walk to the door, peering out the window before sighing in relief.
Chelsea.
I opened to the door before almost being tackled to the ground by her.
"I came as soon as I heard!" Chelsea said hugging me tight.
"Who's this?" Katelyn asks walking up to Chelsea.
Chelsea bit her lip.
"Chelsea, this is my friend Katelyn, " I said before smiling awkwardly between the two and looking back and forth between them.
After a few moments of awkward silence, her face relaxed as she nodded and smiled softly.
"So, what's the plan?" Chelsea asked, sitting down in a chair at the table.
"Honestly, there isn't one," Katelyn said.
We sit in silence, eyes clouded with thoughts as our brains worked overtime. It takes a bit, but when it hits me, it hits me hard.
Idea!
"What if we sneak into the section of the library that has all of the records for the jury, we may be able to find something there that can help!" I suggested.
"You mean the part that only Zane has access to?" Katelyn said, a scoff in her voice, "yeah, 'cause that's an easy way to get caught."
"Mm...not exactly. Zane's out of town for a few days so it won't be guarded as heavily," I replied, finger on my chin as I remember the goodbyes.
"But it will still be guarded, how are we supposed to get in?" Chelsea stated.
"Please, I'm Zane's sister, he's been going in there since he was 16, plus I've snuck in there when I was a kid so I know the secret entrances," I said standing up, "we should...go around midnight-ish, that's when there will be the least amount of guards."
