<>Chapter 26<>
Connor was staring at me blankly. I furrowed my eyebrows and started whipping my head around. I spotted my backpack lying against the tree I was recently leaning on. I dived towards it, skidding across the grass on my knees, and snatched the bag. I tore it open and started looking in it frantically. "No, no, no, no, no!" I said. I turned around to see if it was lying in the grass anywhere. Nothing.
As I heard Connor snicker, I turned sharply to glare at him. "Aw, you're cute when you're mad," he said, a cheeky grin across his face. "You look like Smeagol looking for 'his precious.'" I looked like who when he looked for what? I gave Connor a curious look. He chuckled some more before turning around and tossing me something. "You're even cuter when you're confused."
I caught whatever he threw at me just before it hit me in the face. It was my bow! I looked up at Connor only to find him gone. Then, a hand wrapped around my elbow and lifted me up. "You ready?" Connor whispered in my ear. Shivers ran down my spine and I got a weird feeling in my stomach. I nodded slowly and gulped, trying not to make it obvious I liked this. "Alright, lets go back to camp," he said and stepped back.
I hurriedly shoved my bow into my backpack and slung it over my shoulder. I quickly ran to Connor and nervously smiled as he once again, took my elbow, and lead me away. We didn't have to walk far. We only had to pass a couple of trees and we were there.
Smoke slowly drifted from the burnt out fire, and everyone was sitting in a circle. I smiled to myself and went over to join them. "Wait."
I turned around to face Connor. "Yes?" I asked.
He carefully picked a leaf out of my hair. I smiled and thanked him, then went to sit with the others. "I'm back," I announced, scanning the group's faces. Everyone smiled, as I sat down. Connor sat beside me and leaned back on his hands.
"How are you?" Clarisse asked.
"I'm fine, how are all of you?" I replied.
"Well, Annabeth has gone mad," Percy said, resulting in a glare from her, "from research. And no, not research about the stones or the resort, which I add, is very close, but research about the beast Connor killed."
I raised an eyebrow. "What about this beast?"
"It's not from Greek mythology. It's from a whole other world," Annabeth replied. My mouth gaped open.
"But... how?" I asked, completely stunned. No wonder the monster didn't seem familiar. "Wait, wait, wait. That's impossible, isn't it?"
"The monster had a note stuck to it. It wasn't Greek writing, so I searched it up. Yes, I brought my laptop. Surprisingly, this resort has free wifi," Annabeth said. "Back to the note, this is writing that came from another world. Like a dimension or like something out of The Avengers. Even weirder, the world this note came from is called Thoroki. Literally. (A/N: Ya see what I did there ;) lol this part is the totally made up part btw) The Thorokans have come to take over our world. Somehow, they're building these portals that connect their world to ours. Slowly, very slowly, they're pouring in. If we don't act fast and get your mom out of the underworld, we could all die."
I blinked. I closed my eyes and took a couple deep breaths. "This just keeps getting worser and worser," I exclaimed.
"What we know right now is: One: We need to get to the underworld. Two: We need to save your mom. Three: We have to collect all the stones. Four: We have to safely get out of the Underworld. Five: We have to bring your mom back to Olympus. Six: Monsters are coming to take over. Lastly, seven: We have a limited amount of time to do all of this. In fact, we have probably three months," Annabeth explained.
"This is becoming a disaster," I groaned. "How the heck am I going to- sorry. How the heck are we going to do all this? Especially with me, I'm dead weight. You're all these super amazing heroes and I'm just-"
"I was looking up to you to lead us," Clarisse said.
I shut up. "What?"
"I'm not repeating that."
"Why? Why me? Shouldn't we pick Percy, or Clarisse, or one of you?" I asked.
"No. We should definitely have you lead us. It'll be great practice for you, plus you've already got amazing bow strength and you have a freaking super power. You turn into a mini Artemis. Also, you've led us this far. Why stop now?" Connor said.
"I kind of died along the way," I said and bit my lip.
"Raise hands if you think Sylvia should lead," Tyson said, throwing his hand up. Annabeth and Connor put their hands up next, then the whole group did. Even Amber, who was completely new to this.
A huge, giant grin slapped itself across my face. "Thank you guys, thank you so much. I promise to do my best," I said, gratefully. I think I'm officially a leader now.
