Stacy

At 4 years old Stacy would lay in her bed

As she tried to fall asleep

She could hear her parents yelling from another room

She didn't understand their yelling

So she just assumed it was them showing their affection

At 8 years old Stacy hid behind the couch

As her father hit her mother

She didn't understand what was going on

Why was mommy telling her not to look?

She just assumed it was mommy and daddy's personal way of showing love

So she would turn around until her mother came over with tears in her eyes

At 13 years old Stacy stood in the living room

As her father tried to hit her mother for the hundredth time

But this time she stood in between them

She understood what was going on now

She took the hit her father swung

So that her mother would have one moment of peace

At 15 years old Stacy watched in horror

As her father brought a gun home and pointed it at her mother

"I can't handle you anymore!" He said.

But as he pulled the trigger

Stacy jumped in front of the bullet

It hit her in the stomach

Her mother cradled Stacy in her arms as she bleed profusely

She died a few moments later

But Stacy's last words were

"I'd do anything to keep you safe, I love you mom."
