Laughs And Cuddles

"So sweetie, did you have a good time?" Penny sat in the backseat of her mom's car with Bolt. They had left her Aunt's house that morning and were on their way back to their house. Penny caressed Bolt's furry back and looked out the window, "Yeah mom I had a good time, I didn't get much candy but Aunt Barbara's Apple Pie made up for it." Penny's mom laughed, "Definitely! My sister sure knows how to make a mean Apple Pie!" Penny smiled and watched the countryside fly by. "So, Bolt looks pretty pooped, he have fun yesterday too?" Penny frowned thinking back to the lady with the dog. "Yeah, he had fun." Penny's mom smiled, "Good, I'm glad you two had fun." Bolt rolled over in his sleep and almost made Penny laugh with how cute he looked. Bolt's tongue lolled out of his mouth and the glazed look on his face said it all. Moving her hand to his soft belly, Penny began one of her amazing belly rubs. Bolt whined and Penny lost it when she his right hind leg start to kick. "Bwahahah! Hehehehe! Oh Bolt, I love you buddy." Penny's mom looked in the rear view mirror at her daughter and laughed a little. Bringing her head in, Penny nuzzled Bolt's soft stomach and held him close to her. When they arrived home, Penny was forced to wake up Bolt and literally drag him into the house. "Bolt... you're not exactly being helpful right now, can you please get up?" Bolt gave a whine, "No I can't, I'm really not feeling like it right now." Penny sighed and started to walk away, Bolt sat up almost immediately. "Penny? Penny! Where are you going?" Penny turned around and gave him a look of innocence. "Well, since you obviously like it out here more than inside with-" Bolt sprung from his spot, "Noooooo! Don't leave me out here alone!" Penny laughed and watched as her Shepherd came barreling past her and into the house at full speed. Walking up the stoop, Penny closed the door behind her and Bolt turned to her with an angry look on his face. "Why'd you do that!? I thought you were gonna lock me out!" Penny laughed, "Bolt I was just giving you incentive so you would move." Bolt's ears folded back, "So... you weren't gonna lock me out?" Penny kneeled down next to him, "Of course I wasn't going to lock you out Bolty, you're too precious to me." Bolt's smile returned to his muzzle, "Good, besides... you know I could easily persuade you to carry me." Bolt cocked his ears back again and whimpered a little, putting on his most adorable face. Penny laughed again, "You're right, I don't know how I could say no to a face like that." Taking off her jacket and shoes, Penny walked to the stairs and up to her room. Bolt followed and she closed the door after him. "So Bolty, what do you want to do? Play a board game? Help me write? Read?" Bolt made himself comfortable on the bed. "Hmmm.... can you read me to sleep?" Penny looked at her untidy bookshelf, "Well I could try, what book do you want me to read?" Bolt thought for a moment. "Well... I guess it really doesn't matter, anything you want." Penny walked to her bookshelf looking for a good book. Scanning the rows of Science Fiction, Romance, and Action, Penny eyes landed on a book she hadn't read since she was 8. "How about this one?" Penny held up the thick soft cover chapter book. "What's it about?" Penny sat down on her bed and pulled back the covers, "Well get all cuddled up with me and I'll read it to you." Bolt climbed over to Penny and laid down on his side, back to her. Turning on the small table lamp next to her bed, Penny clapped twice and the main light turned off. Throwing the covers over the both of them, Bolt scooted backwards into Penny. Wrapping her arm around her soft canine, Penny flipped open to the first page. "A Land Not So Far Away, chapter one." Nuzzling her head onto Bolt's, Penny began to read. "Long ago, in a land not so far away, there lived a beautiful Princess. Her name was Hylena. Hylena's parents were always forcing her into stuff she didn't want to do. For instance, one morning when the dew was fresh on the grass, her mother entered her room and proclaimed that she had found her a suitable man to marry. At first Hylena was excited, she hoped he was someone nice. But upon meeting him the next morning, she wasn't impressed at all. He was a stuck up snobbish man, caring only about the money he would get by marrying her." At this point Bolt's breathing had slowed down and his body had relaxed into Penny's. "Bolt.... You asleep?" No response. Closing the book, Penny cuddled closer to her dog and laid a series of gentle kisses along his head and muzzle. Turning off the small bedside lamp, Penny closed her eyes and sighed in contentment. Lying in the silent room, the only sounds that could be heard was the soft breathing coming from Bolt. Soon the softness of his fur and gentle breathing had lulled Penny to sleep.
