Penny unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door to her car. "Okay Bolt, stay here and watch the car, I have to run in and get some coffee before we head home." The White Shepherd drummed his tail on the seat, "Alright Penny, just don't take too long. You know I worry about you." Penny leaned down and gave him a peck on the side of his muzzle and climbed out the car. 'Ding Dong'. As Penny opened the door to the gas station, the chimer on door alerted the sleepy looking employee behind the counter. "Heh, sorry about that, must've dozed off for a few seconds. Welcome, what can I do you for?" Penny slipped a five dollar bill from her purse, "I'd like a medium black coffee, no sugar no creamer." Nodding the young teen in the green work jacket walked down to the end of the counter and began preparing her beverage. Then from behind her, a deep voice, "Hey sweet cheeks, what're you doing later?" Turning around hand raised ready to slap, Penny stopped and immediately backed toward the counter. A tall man in a dark leather jacket and blue jeans stared her down, eyes burning with an intense desire. Penny didn't even know how he snuck up on him, being he was so big.

Flicking his head to the gas station interior, Bolt growled as a tall man in a black jacket approached Penny with a devilish smile. He could see him say something to her and when she turned around, the worriness was obvious on her face. Fearing the worst, Bolt began barking and snapping viciously, pawing at the window.

From inside, Penny remained against the counter. The man stepped closer, "What's wrong honey? Don't like me?" From behind her, the cashier returned with her coffee. "Alright miss, that'll be $1.75 please." Penny didn't turn around but said, "If you don't stop harassing me, I'm gonna call the police." The man snickered, drawing even closer to her. Penny could smell the faintest scent of marijuana and alcohol on the man before her. "Now sir, it is within my rights to kick you off the premises, so please step away from the girl." The druggie looked back at the cashier, "You better shut up or we're gonna have some real problems." Then out from the corner of her eye, Penny saw the man pull out something black. "Holy shit! He has a gun!"

Bolt pawed at the door lock on the car. Due to the extensive training he had to go through when he was acting in the movies, he was able to open the door and sprint to the door. Trying to reach the handle, he realized that the door was one of those pull open ones. "Penny!" Then with his sensitive hearing, he heard a siren in the distance approaching fast.

Brad, finished getting the lady's coffee, returned to the cash register to see a regular harassing her. Knowing the guy had probably already stolen something, Brad pushed the silent alarm button under the counter. "Now sir, it is within my rights to kick you off the premises, so please step away from the girl." The man snickered, then from his pocket he pulled a gun. "Holy shit! He has a gun!" Pulling the girl into a headlock, the man pointed the gun at Brad.

Driving along the empty road, Deputy Kent let out a sigh and listened aimlessly to the police chatter. He was bored, needless to say. Nothing interesting had happened in a while. "Attention all units in the vicinity of Parkway Ave, we have a 211 in progress, silent alarm tripped at the Sunoco Gas Station. Respond code 3." Fumbling with the receiver Kent spoke into it, "Copy that this is unit 32, responding code 3."

"Come on Daniel, you don't need to do this." The drug user laughed, "Oh yeah? What're you gonna do? Chuck pennies at me? This girl is mine! Hahaha!" Then from entrance the sound of screeching tires and a siren winding down reached their ears. "This is the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, you're outgunned and outnumbered. Throw down your weapon and come out with your hands up." Daniel scoffed, throwing Penny aside, he took cover behind a store shelf.

As Deputy Kent arrived on scene, he saw that the guy inside had a gun pointed at the cashier. From the front door, a white dog with pointy ears approached him and barked. Kent reached into his car and pulled out his megaphone. "This is the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, you're outgunned and outnumbered." Then from inside the store the man took cover and leaned out. "Aww shit!" Kent said as the criminal opened fire.

Bullets pelted the squad car as Kent remained in cover. "Shots fired, officer pinned down by gunfire, I need backup units now!" Drawing his firearm, Kent waited for the gunfire to stop before he came out of cover and popped off a few rounds.

Penny scurried away from Daniel, and ran to the back entrance. "Where do you think you are going!?" Penny heard the bullets whiz past her head as she flew through the fire exit. From down the end of the alley, a Sheriff's car pulled up and a deputy got out. Penny ran screaming, "Help! Help me!" The deputy motioned for her to get to him. Running as fast as she could, she heard the door behind her open, "You bitch!" Then the sound of gunfire. Penny felt something burning in her side and looking down, saw that her shirt was bloodstained. "Oh shit.." Penny said before collapsing. That was the last thing she remembered before passing out.

DAY 5-

Penny grunted as she awoke, her whole side burned like fire and a heavy warmth lay upon her non-injured side. The light was bright as she opened her eyes, but they soon adjusted and she saw she was in a hospital room. Lying on her uninjured side was Bolt, head down and eyes closed. Tilting her head to the side, Penny saw her mom sitting in the rooms waiting chair. "Mom..." Penny's mom looked up. "Oh Penny, I feared the worst when the police called me and told me what happened." Reaching for her mother's hand, Penny grabbed hold and smiled. "I'm fine mom, it's only a gunshot wound." Her mom scoffed, "Only a gunshot wound? Penny, you're making me get gray hairs." Penny laughed and then proceeded to let out a strangled groan. Settling down from the pain in her side, Penny reached down and gently ran her hand through Bolt's downy fur. "You know Bolt hasn't left your side since we got here," Penny's mom said. Letting out a sigh, Penny nudged her sleeping pooch. "Hey Bolty, I'm awake." The White Shepherd opened his eyes and his tail began to wag excitedly. Whining, ears laid back, Bolt crawled up Penny's body and nuzzled under her chin. Wrapping her arms around the fluffy canine, Penny closed her eyes and fell asleep with her dog in her arms.
