Penny swished her cereal around with her spoon as her belly did a sickening flop. Pushing her bowl back, her mom gave her a concerned look. "Penny, what's wrong?" Penny held her stomach and gave a groan. "I don't feel very good mom, my stomach feels like it wants to punch me in the face." Her mom sighed, "That's what I was afraid of," she said. Penny groaned again and put her head on the table. "Come on, get your coat and shoes on, I'm taking you to the Doctor's Office." Groaning louder, Penny stood up and grabbed her coat off the back of her chair. "Mom," Penny mumbled. Her mom looked up from her cell phone, "What is it sweetheart?" Penny nearly lost it then and there. "Bolt is coming with us, whether you like it or not." Pennyś mom sighed, "Fine, Iĺl call ahead and see if you can bring him in with us." Walking to the front door, Penny slipped on her shoes and called to her Shepherd, "Bolt! Come on boy! Were leaving for the doctor!" Penny heard the pitter patter of paws on the stairs. "Coming Penny! Don't leave without me!" Bolt appeared from around the corner and sat down at Pennys feet. "What's wrong Penny? I'm picking up this hostile scent coming from you." Penny smiled a little, "Well Bolt I'm sick, were going to the Doctor's Office and I wanted you to come with me." From the kitchen Penny heard her mom, "Penny! Are you ready to go!?" Penny opened the front door. "Yeah mom!"
On the drive there, Bolt lay in Penny's lap the whole way. He knew there was something wrong with his human, but he didn't know what. "Penny?" Bolt nuzzled her stomach softly. Penny didn't say anything, but reached down to scratch him between the ears. Bolt kept his head buried in her chest the rest of the way there as Penny hung her head out the window of the car. When they arrived at the Doctor's Office, some people gave them some strange looks because Bolt went in with them. The secretary tried to make Penny's mom take Bolt back outside to the car but she easily out shined the snooty secretary. "I'm not gonna let my daughter suffer out here without her dog, so I suggest you buzz off and do your job!" Penny's mom read the secretary's tag, "Miranda!" The secretary did a double take and was about to make a comeback but at that moment, the doctor stepped in. "Penny?" Bolt's ears perked and he looked at the doctor. Penny got up and, grumbling curses under her breath, walked through the door to the offices behind. Bolt followed her and since her mom had called ahead, the doctor let him through too. The nurse who followed them opened the door and Penny, Bolt, Penny's mom, and the doctor stepped in. Sitting down on the examination bed, Bolt had little difficulty following her up and resting his head on her lap. Sitting down on his roller stool, the doctor wrote a few things down on his clipboard. "So, Mrs. Penny, what seems to be the problem?" Penny groaned and scooted a little closer to the trash can. "Well to start, my stomach feels like it's about send a welcoming party to your trash can doctor." The doc nodded and wrote something down on his sheet of paper. Penny's mom piped up, "So Doctor Marshall, what do you think is wrong with her?" The doctor looked up at her mom over his spectacles, "Well it's tough to say Ms. Rockwell, there's a lot of bugs going around at the moment , but the most common one I've seen over the past few days has been an advanced version of the Stomach Flu, otherwise know as 'Gastroenteritis'." Penny's mom nodded knowingly, "I knew it had to be something like that, she's been like this for about three days now." Doctor Marshall nodded and wrote down some more notes. Setting down his clipboard and pocketing his pen, the doctor rolled over to Penny. Standing up he said, "Now Ms. Penny, I'm gonna take your usual, temperature, breathing regularity, and check your ears. I'm also gonna take a urine sample to test for possible Stomach Flu. It will take several hours for the results but I'll call you over the phone and let you know what it is." So for the next 10 minutes Doctor Marshall examined Penny and took her temperature. When Penny had to go to the bathroom for the urine sample, Bolt was reluctant to leave her side but settled for sitting outside the door. When the sample was collected, Penny, her mom, and even Bolt, said goodbye to Doctor Marshall, and left the office. On the way out, Penny's mom shot the receptionist a dirty look.
Laying on the couch, Penny had trash can sitting next to her and Bolt lying on her lap. "Penny? Has the man in the white coat called you yet?" Penny groaned and leaned over the side of the couch, a ringing splattering sound echoing from the trash can. Coming back up, Penny wiped her mouth on her sleeve. "Sorry Bolt, uh no. He hasn't called yet." Lying her head back down on the pillow, Penny closed her eyes rest her hands on Bolt. Gently caressing his soft fur, Penny's stomach jolted and turned. From inside the kitchen Penny heard her mom's voice. "Yes Dr. Marshall I'll be sure to tell her." With the click of the phone being put down, Penny heard her mom enter the living room and saw her sit down on the edge of the couch. "Honey, I just got off the phone with Dr. Marshall, he said your results just came through." Penny nodded and make little swirly movements with her fingers through Bolt's downy fur. "He said you tested positive for the Stomach Flu. So tomorrow I'm going back to his office to pick up your medication." Penny nodded again and groaned. Standing up, her mom left her with Bolt and went back into the kitchen. Sitting up, Penny picked up the trash can and set off for the stairs. When she reached her room, she let Bolt in and then proceeded to collapse on the bed whilst setting the trash can next to her. Letting out the loudest groan of the day into her pillow, Penny rolled over and climbed under the covers. "Bolt, care to join me under the covers?" Her Shepherd barked, "Yeah!" Bolt wiggled his way under the covers and felt Penny wrap her arms around him. Cuddling up close, Penny pressed herself against Bolt and buried her face in the side of his fuzzy neck.
