Penny opened her eyes wearily and sat up yawning. Throwing out her arms in a stretch, she felt around for Bolt and smiled when her hand came into contact with soft fur. Laying back down, Penny snuggled up against Bolt's warm body and closed her eyes. Suddenly there was a knock on her door. "Penny? Are you up sweetheart?" It was her mom. Moving her head from it's comfortable position behind Bolt's, she responded. "Yeah mom. What's going on?" Penny heard her door open and her mom came in. Closing the door behind her, Penny's mom came over to her bed and sat down. Brushing the hair out of Penny's face, her mom said, "Well, your grandmother and I are going to the Two Whales Diner in town if you want to tag along." Penny nuzzled into Bolt's fur and sighed. "Yeah, I think I'll come along. It'll be nice to see the sunrise on the way." Penny's mom smiled, "Okay, just get ready and we'll be waiting downstairs for you." Standing up, her mom walked to the door. As she opened the door however, Penny spoke up, "Hey mom? Is this that Diner that lets behaved dogs in?" Turning around Penny's mom nodded and closed the door quietly. With her mind sending out a silent 'yes!' Penny sat up and slipped on her house slippers. "Mmmm.... Penny... what time is it?" Penny looked to her Shepherd and saw his eyes open slowly. Ruffling the fur on his white pelt, Penny stood up and walked to her closet. "Come on Bolt, mom's taking us to that Diner in town that let dogs inside." Bolt sat up at that and stretched his legs, yawning. Picking out a pair of leggings that fit her personality (a pair of leggings with a picture of Bolt on them), she grabbed a long sleeve shirt and some underwear. Behind her, Bolt jumped off her bed and padded over to her, nuzzling against her leg like some kind of cat. "Bolt, what are you doing?" Pressing his head into her thigh, Bolt let out a sigh, "I'm tired Penny, give me a break, I just woke up." Giggling, Penny reached down and scratched the area between Bolt's ears. "Well I got to take a shower. So can it wait for the car ride?" Bolt brought his head back and looked up at her with brown eyes. "Ugh... sure. I'll meet you downstairs." Penny bent over and gave Bolt a small peck on the lips. Closing her closet, Penny walked out of her room and across the hall to the bathroom. Shutting the door behind her, Penny stripped her clothes off and grabbed a towel from the shelf.

Ruffling her hair with with the towel, Penny grabbed a brush from the woven basket and stared at her reflection in the mirror. In her opinion, she didn't win any Grammy for prettiest face in California but she still was pretty cute. Running the brush through her hair, Penny hummed to hers elf and worked to get the knots out. Finishing with her hair, she put on her bra, shirt, panties, leggings, and socks. Grabbing her perfume bottle from the counter, Penny sprayed some on her shirt and leggings. It's not that she needed it, it's just that that Lavender happened to be Bolt's favorite scent. Satisfied with her getup, Penny opened the bathroom door and headed downstairs.

"Are you ready to go Penny?" Penny nodded, slipping on her boots and jacket. Opening the door, penny stepped outside and felt the ice cold breeze of winter hit her. Running through the shoveled path that lead to the driveway, Penny slid and almost fell down but caught herself on the edge of the car. Bolt sat behind her waiting patiently tail thumping lightly on the snowy ground. Hearing the lock click, Penny opened the door and let Bolt climb in first. Climbing in after him, she shut the door and put her seat belt on. "Are you cold Penny?" Bolt moved to Penny and lay down on her lap. At first she didn't answer, but after a few seconds, Penny leaned down and pulled Bolt up and into her chest. Burying her face the side of Bolt's head, Penny softly kissed his cheek and let out a sigh. Bolt relaxed into her body, and closed his eyes. The sound of approaching footsteps reached his ears, and then the door to the car opened. A cold draft swept inside and made him shiver. Penny's mom climbed into the driver's seat and her grandma in the passenger. Looking up, Penny saw her grandpa open the backseat door and sit in. "Hey there Penny! Cold?" The girl smiled and nodded. "Well I'm sure your mom will get the heater going in a jiffy." Burying her face back in Bolt's neck once more, Penny felt the car rumble to life and the air vents on the dashboard kick in full blast.

On the drive into town, Penny looked out the window at the sunrise. Since it wasn't supposed to snow until evening, the sun popped out from the distance and shined on the open fields they passed.

As they turned onto a long two lane road leading into town, Penny felt that Bolt's breathing had slowed down and looking down, saw he had fallen asleep. Nuzzling into his fur coat, Penny felt her love for this dog deepen with every passing second. Pressing her lips to his ear she whispered quietly, "I love you Bolt. Your my Bolty Boo and you always will be."

Pulling into the Diner's parking lot, Penny's mom parked the car and looked in the back seat. The sight before her made her smile. Penny had fallen asleep with Bolt in her arms and his muzzle buried in her chest. Reaching back, she gently tapped Penny on the arm. "Hey Penny, Penny... we're here., come on." Opening her eyes, Penny sat up straighter in her seat and hugged Bolt closer to her. "Okay, just give me a minute to wake up Bolt." Running her fingers down his furry back, Penny whispered softly, "Bolt... hey Bolty... we're at the Diner. Time to get up." Bolt opened his brown eyes slowly, stretching in Penny's arms and yawning tiredly. "Mmmkay. Alright... I'm up." With the sound of opening doors, the family climbed out of the car and closed the doors behind them. Clipping a leash on Bolt, (as was restaurant policy), Penny lead him to the front door and up the steps. When they walked inside, the smell of Sausage, Bacon, and Coffee greeted their noses. Choosing to sit down at a booth, a lady came around and took their orders.

"Phew... I'm stuffed," Penny said pushing her plate forward. Her mom did the same, "Yeah, I've never tried the waffles here but that was pretty good. We'll have to stop here again sometime." Leaning back in her seat, Penny lay an arm on Bolt, who was rolled over on his back, tongue lolling out. Penny gave his belly a few scratches, "Hey Bolty, enjoy your food?" Bolt didn't respond but gave his tail a few thumps. Penny smiled, 'I'll take that as a yes,' she said to herself. Penny's mom huffed, "Well, we ready to go?" Everyone nodded in agreement and stood up. Leaving the cash on the counter with the receipt, Penny's mom followed the rest of them out of the diner.

On the drive home, Penny's eyes had grown heavy and she leaned her head into Bolt, closing her eyes. "Aww... looks like someones tired," Bolt  said nuzzling into his humans downy skin. Penny didn't respond but wrapped her arms around his soft body, drawing him in closer. With the light sound of the car in the background, Bolt closed his eyes and fell asleep in Penny's embrace.
