Chapter 1: DEPLOY! To the sand village

Shanel POV

It's been three years since the village was attacked and most of our classmates became chunins' and Jounins' (all except Naruto). Three years ago Sasuke left the village and became a rogue ninja. Naruto started training with Master Jiraiya. Sakura became a skilled medical ninja training under Lady Tsunade, our fifth Hokage. Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji became chunin and led their own missions and teams. I'm not sure what Shino and Kiba but I know they became stronger as well. Hinata and Neji trained greatly together. Three years ago, Nicoole was kidnapped by the Akatsuki. Three years ago our Sensei was killed...

"Shanellllll" My thoughts were interrupted with Leslie squinting her eyes and gazing at me closely. Sigh.

"What Leslie?" I tried to keep my cool but deep down I was a bit irritated. I was know to have a short tempered personality at times, which I was trying to fix.

"I think it's almost time to go...are you good good?" She swayed back in forth and for some reason did a pose.

"Yeah I'm fine, let's go." I walked ahead of Leslie towards the Hokage's office. Leslie caught up and started up a conversation while on the way, something about a new type of food idea that she had called a grilled cheese stuff crusted pizza?

"Hey do you think Fifth will finally assign us a S-rank mission?!" Leslie jumped excitedly.

"I mean I've been on an S-rank mission before during Anbu...but as Team 1 I guess we never did go in an S-rank mission together did we?" I looked up at the sky. What a nice day.

"Are you secretly trying to brag about being a former member of Anbu?" She looked at me suspiciously.

"Maybe." We both started to laugh. This feels like the good old days from three years ago. Except...

***flashback***
"Why are you doing this?!" Leslie and I cried as we tried to stop the bleeding from our Sensei's stomach. Nicoole was unconscious and being dragged away by a shark looking guy.

"This does not concern any of you." The man with a strange version of sharingan eyes glared at us and started to walk away.

***end of flash back***
I stopped walking for a moment and looked up at the clear blue sky.

"Shan the man are you sure you're okay today?" Leslie stopped looking a bit concerned.

"Yeah, sorry." I laughed and smiled towards her.

-----------------At the Hokage's office------------------

Leslie POV
Shan the man was sure acting weird today. Hehe, I can't believe Shanel really let me call her shan the man... but I wonder what she was thinking about?

"Leslie are you listening?!" Lady Tsunade slammed her hand on her desk and stood up from her chair. Shizune jumped back and was gripping onto her pet pig tightly. Shanel nudged me.

"Lady Tsunade, I greatly apologize, it really has been a long morning." Shanel bowed and I followed her lead. Fifth sighed.

"Listen carefully now. You are to travel for three days to arrive to the Hidden Sand where you will be greeted by Temari and Kankuro, fellow chiefs to the Kazekage. Be careful when addressing the Kazekage. He may be similar in age, but he is still one of the Kage of the five great nations. And most importantly, pay attention!" She slammed her hand down one last time, then smiled. "Leslie and Shanel this will be a duo S-rank mission, which you two will help assist the Kazekage and chiefs, as well as, find out more information about the Akatsuki." She paused for a moment. "Now I know that your friend was kidnapped, but do not let that cloud your minds. Focus on the mission at hand, you are dismissed!" With her words we were deployed to the Hidden Sand.

------------------At the gates of Konoha--------------

Shanel POV
"Leslie do you have everything you need?" I looked at Leslie who was carrying a backpack and other supplies. "Are you sure that's not, um too much?" I questioned her.

"Nah son, it'll be fine we need all this stuff." She laughed.

"I'm not your son." I said angrily. We bursted out laughing. We are a weird pair.

"Um why do you have the Anbu sword katana thing with you? I thought you had to return those if you retired from Anbu?" She questioned me. I pulled out my katana. "Woah! I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you angry." She took a step back.

"What are you talking about? I was just gonna show you my customized katana that I ordered after Anbu." I sighed. Did she really think I was going to kill her. I laughed at the thought.

"Wowow that's very nice." She looked down.

"Thanks. Should we go now? We have a three day adventure ahead." I stated.

With this Leslie and I started are journey to the Hidden Sand. Hopefully when we get there we can find out more information about the Akatsuki and Nicoole's whereabouts.
