Chapter 1:

Luke's POV:

It's been 5 years; exactly 5 years today. 5 years since I told the biggest lie, and broke the heart of the girl I was in love with.

I didn't want to. God no. I was and am still in love with Kayla. I was even on my way to tell her the great news, that One Direction asked us to go on tour with them.

--Flashback--

"Luke! Where ya going mate?" Ashton, my band mate hollered from the tan sofa as I donned my jacket.

"To tell Kayla the news." I grinned, slipping on my shoes as the light of the sunniest day of the year poured in through the window.

"Woah woah wait." Any hint of the previous joking tone he spoke with was gone as his eyes narrowed towards me. "You're going to what?" He made a face at me from his comfortable position sprawled out on the couch.

"Tell Kayla the news...?" I threw him a confused glance as I grabbed my keys from the rack. My hand was just hovering over the door knob, when Ashton suddenly appeared beside me, and knocked me out of the way. "What the hell, dude?!" I stared at him in disbelief.

"Ya can't do that, mate..." He mumbled, a panicked look set in his eyes.

"And why the bloody hell not?" I folded my arms across my chest in annoyance. I mean, I know he's never really like Kayla and I dating, but he can suck a chode for all I care. I love her. I always will.

"Time to tell him, guys!" Ash's high pitched voice echoed through the house, summoning our other two band members. Calum wandered in from the kitchen, just finishing off a piece of toast with vegemite slathered on it, just as Michael bounded down the stairs two at a time, both coming to stand flanking Ashton. Confusion plagued me as I glanced around at them.

"What’s going on?"

"You need to end it with Kayla, mate." Calum spoke with an apologetic undertone to his voice. The other two nodded in a silent agreement. My jaw dropped in shock.

"What the fuck, why?!" I slammed my keys down on the table, anger surging through my veins.

"You need to focus on our band and our music now; no girl is going to get in the way." Michael crossed his arms, as if to say 'that's the end of it'.

"Bull shit! Kayla doesn't distract me! Why can't I be with her?!" My voice thundered through the huge house, stripped of everything, and shoved away into boxes and suitcases.

"Face it. While we're on tour, you're going to be thinking of her, wanting to be with her, and focused 110% on her." Ash placed a hand on my shoulder that I shoved off roughly. "Management agree. It's time to let go."

That sent me over the edge.

I lunged forward, desperately throwing punches wildly, aiming at anything or anyone. My fist managed to connect with Ashton's face before I was roughly thrown to the floor and pinned.

"Luke! See what this girl has already done to us?!" Calum shrieked, shaking my shoulders roughly. "She's already managed to come between us!"

Everything fell silent. The only audible sound was of our heavy breathing.

And then, my whole world came crashing down.

//End of flashback//

Her grief stricken face still haunts me to this day.

It took absolutely everything out of me not to burst into tears, and wrap my arms around her, just whispering sweet nothings into her ear. But at the end of the day, I had to do what was best for the band.

"LUKE!" A high pitched giggle snapped me out of my thoughts, grasping my attention. The one and only Ashton Irwin scrambled in, and flipped over the couch I was currently sprawled out on. "HIDE MEH!" He laughed as he aimed a blue and orange kids' water gun towards the entrance of the bus.

"What in the name of god are you doing?" I chuckled, messing up his hair. He growled, and swatted my hand away before setting his gun down, and devoting all his attention to fix it. I shook my head and laughed at him before turning to look at the bus door, to see what all the commotion was about.

"OK, well, I kinda did something to Michael an-" Ashton was cut off as a stream of water shot out and came in contact with his face.

"HAHA! SUCK IT, IRWIN!" Michael stood in the doorway, a look of triumph as Ashton fumbled around, trying to escape the steady stream of water. I clutched my stomach, and bent over in laughter as the scene continued to unfold in front of me

It was times like these that really made me glad that we've had this opportunity to grow closer as a band, even if it meant leaving the girl I loved behind.

"I SURRENDER!" He shrieked through the water, putting his hands up. Michael giggled like a little school girl, before dropping the water gun to his sides.

"Payback’s a bitch, ain't it?" He smirked before plopping down beside me. "Aye, did you hear the news?" He nodded towards me. I looked at a very wet Ashton in confusion, his expression mirroring mine. "We're going back to our hometown!"

My heart stopped.

"WHAT?!" I jumped up, shrieking.

Mikey laughed. "Yup! You get to see that girl again." He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

My heart raced at the thought of even just seeing her again.

Her long, chocolate brown hair, sparkling blueberry eyes. And her giggle that could end misery and sadness in a mili-second.

"He's out for the count. I'm guessing you told him?" Calum grinned, throwing his empty Iced Tea can at me. I glared before throwing it to the side.

"Yeah, we did. He's daydreamin' about Kaylaaa!" Ash and Michael cooed while making kissy-faces at me. My cheeks burned as I glanced down.

"You know, it wouldn't have been such a big deal if you let me stay with her. She probably hates me now..." I sighed, glancing out the tinted windows.

"Just win her over with your teen heartthrob charm, she'll get over herself." Ashton nudged my shoulder before chorusing in laughter with the rest of them. However, a frown stayed permanently etched onto my face.

"How long before we get there?" I barely whispered. They all exchanged quick glances between them, before smiling widely.

"You have less than 7 hours 'til you see this girl again."
