-So you haven’t heard much from Kayla lately, so may as well do her POV for you guys. Thank you all for your patience ♥-
//KAYLA’S POV://
“Want to go hunting?” His masculine voice purred darkly in my ear. I cringed away from the sound, moving as far away from him as I possibly could in this random person’s basement.
Seeing as I am what I am, I’m not able to go home to live with my family. I miss them a hell of a lot, but I can’t risk losing control and possibly harming them. So I followed Christian around like a lost puppy for about a year and a half, until he got tired of compelling people to let us stay in their attic for the night. We purchased a slightly bigger house than the normal Sydney resident would have, and resided there, up until a few days ago.
Around the time thatthose boyscame back, a new hunter moved into town.
I have no idea who it is or what they look like, but I have a feeling Christian knows more than he lets on.
If we stayed in that house like we usually did, it would be much too easy for whoever this hunter is to beat us. So for now, it’s back to compulsion and strangers basements.
“No, I’m not hungry.” I huffed, crossing my arms and sliding down the wall in the bleak darkness. The house he chose this time had a nice top half, but the basement is cold, dark, and unfinished.
His distinguishable scoff rang out mere seconds after I spoke. “Like hell you’re not. Have you seen your eyes lately?” My eyes widened as I turned my head towards the wall, desperately trying to hide them.
When we haven’t fed in a while, the black band around our eyes will expand like a fog crawling across the ground. If we somehow manage to withhold the urge to feed, then the black will fully engulf the whites of your eyes, and will start to crack holes, like a root from a tree threading through the dirt, starting from your eye sockets, and continuing until there is practically nothing left of your being. The pain(or so I’ve heard) is excruciating, and the majority of our kind who have made it to that point, had went on a giant killing spree, desperately trying to reverse what has begun. However, once it’s started, it won’t stop until it’s consumed you.
“Do you want to end up like Breighann did?” I let out an inhuman squeak as all the morbid and terrifying images flipped through my mind like a slide show. I shook my head wildly, banging my hands against the sides of them, trying to make them go away.
“N-No.” I whimpered, hugging my head between my knees. The onslaught of pictures suddenly stopped, and I let out a deep sigh of relief. “You’re an ass.” I glared at him. He just grinned manically back at me from 2 feet away.
“I know. It’s a gift, really.” He winked as he ran his hand quickly through his thick, raven black hair. I just rolled my eyes, and adverted my gaze back to the solid concrete wall to my left.
Each vampire has a strength. Once we are turned, we receive certain “powers”, so to speak. Things like being able to compel humans (and if you’re incredibly strong, other supernatural beings),our superhuman speed, heightened senses, control of human actions, as well as placing images into their minds.
With some individuals, one or possibly two will be stronger than the others.
Mine, is controlling human’s actions. I can make them sleep or dance or freeze with the snap of my fingers, basically. I rarely ever use it, though.
Christian’s strong point, is being able to place images people don’t necessarily want to see, in their minds. He decides when to stop them.
I’ve been victim of this more than a few times,
And it’s infuriating.
“So, how about that hunting?” I dispelled my train of thought as his voice broke the silence, and hopped up off of the floor, and made my way over to the doorway in less than a split second. Just as I was about to ascend the stairs, I whipped my hair over my right shoulder, and looked back at him.
“You coming?” I popped an eyebrow up with an amused smile on my face. His eyes lit up with excitement as he bounded over.
“You look so hot while hunting,” he grinned, pressing uncomfortably close to me. “I wouldn’t miss it.”
Once we quietly slipped out of the front door, we were greeted with the warm, bright Sydney morning sun. It was only around 11:00; normal time for humans to begin with their lunchtime routine.
Christian and I strode down the familiar street I grew up on, until we grew closer to our hunting destination; the vast forest behind the playground. Just as we neared the turnoff, a high pitched laugh echoed down the street, causing me to whip my head towards the sound. My eyes settled on Calum and Michael, waiting for who I presume to be the two other boys, to join them outside. I rested my arm on the trunk of a pine tree as I watched Ashton shuffle out of the door with a pissed-off expression on his face, and his wild curls tucked into a yellow bandana. Then there was Luke. My heart raced as I studied him again. He looked almost the same as when we used to have sleepovers, and we’d cuddle in bed, and he’d wake me up by humming our favourite songs in my ear. A subconscious smile crept up on my face as I watched him try to fix his already perfect quiff, but soon collapsed when I saw a model-looking girl bound down the steps, and came to stand extremely close to him. I let out a low growl as he smiled warmly down at her, his hand wrapping around her petite shoulders.
A quick, stabbing pain ripped through the left side of my chest as I watched.
I winced as I felt the tears well up in my eyes.
This feeling is all too similar to the one I felt the day he left me.
The feeling of my already broken beyond repair heart, splintering into a million tiny pieces.
I hastily blinked away the salty droplets that threatened to spill, and looked away as all 5 of them made their way down the street together.
It is my fault I feel this way. I told him to never see me again; rejected any help or sympathy he was dangling tantalizingly in front of my face
But what could he have done? I’d be putting his life and mine at risk if he ever found out. Even so, I couldn’t live with myself if he coward in fear away from what I am.
Maybe it’s for the best if we both move on. I could live with Christian, and we could live together forever, off of other human’s life sources. He could go get married with that girl, have kids, and eventually grandchildren, and grow old with her. Something he could never do with me.
A dull hum of the pain still made itself known within my being, but I put on a placid mask, and whirled around to channel my anger and hurt into a wild, heartless, killing machine.
