"Patrick! Come on we're going to be late for lunch with my parents!" Elle yelled up the stairs to her boyfriend Patrick Kane. She and her parents had made plans to meet up with them for lunch so her parents could finally meet Patrick.
Patrick was so nervous about meeting Elle's parents. What if they didn't like him? Everyone seemed to have this idea that Patrick slept around, which was the total opposite of the truth. Patrick was a one woman kind of man, and would never cheat on his lady.
"I'll be right down babe!" he yelled back, quickly spraying on some cologne and running down the stairs.
"Do I look alright?" he asked, growing more and more nervous by the minute."Since when are you such a girl?" Elle teased. "You look fine honey. Look, don't worry, my parents will love you!" she reassured him. "Now let's go we're gonna be late!" she laughed, hurrying Patrick out the door.
The two of them sped to the little restaurant in downtown Chicago where they were meeting Elle's parents.
"Elle dear! What took you so long?" her father Dale asked, getting up and giving her a hug.
"Sorry dad, we um, got stuck in traffic." she replied, not wanting to blame it on Patrick. He was nervous enough, and didn't want to make him even more uncomfortable."That's alright. So this must be Patrick!" her mom Kate gushed as she sat across from them.
"Oh yes, sorry. Mom, dad, this is Patrick. Patrick this is my dad Dale and my mom Kate." Elle introduced them. Patrick shook hands with both of her parents, wanting to make a good first impression. The rest of the lunch consisted of awkward small talk, until Dale decided to be a dick.
"So, Patrick I hear you sleep around," he said, glaring at Patrick.
"No sir, those are just some harsh rumours. That's not true." Patrick replied, nervous and uncomfortable.
"Well with those rumours going around all over the city there's a good chance they might be true."
"Dad-" Elle tried to speak up but was immediately cut off.
"Elle honey, shh, I'm just looking out for you." Dale replied, still staring down Patrick."Look, sir, I realize that you don't think very highly of me, but I'm going to spend every day of the rest of my life proving to you that I am good enough for your daughter," Patrick said, with true meaning in his voice. Elle could tell when he meant something or didn't, and he truly meant this.
Dale sat there dumbfounded. He didn't know what to say to Patrick.
"Okay, well it was nice seeing you guys but we're leaving. Come on Patrick," Elle said, meanly looking at her father the whole time.
Elle and Patrick walked out of the restaurant hand in hand to Patrick's truck.
"Patrick, did you... did you really mean what you said to my father?"
"Of course, Elle. I love you so much, and if I have to kiss your dad's ass until he accepts us together, then I will. You're worth it." he said, looking deep into her eyes.He then leaned down and passionately kissed her.
All while Dale was watching out the window, with a small smile on his face.
