*AN/ I will switch back from first person to third every once in a while ;) just so you know. The picture is Archer. *
He sat in the local coffee shop, directly across from the pizza place. That way, he could keep an eye on her. She threw her head back and laughed. He didn't give a flying rat's ass that she thought the boy was funny. He couldn't stand watching them together; the sight gave him chills up his arms.
"Control yourself, Archer! You can't blame the boy for trying." Jev scolded, letting out a low whistle. His relaxed position contrasted strongly to that of Archer, who had been clenching his fists so tightly that the skin on his knuckles looked as though it were about to split open!
"I'm working, Jev." Archer said in a low, steady voice. Jev just laughed and took a long swig of his coffee.
"You mean you're admiring that smoking chick over there." Jev corrected pointedly, swallowing more of his coffee. Archer glared at him in disgust.
"Dammit Jev, go find someone else to annoy! I'm trying to work. I only have one shot, and I have to watch and make sure I don't miss it." Archer snapped, glaring at Jev, who simply ignored the retort and took another long sip of his coffee.
"How do you drink that shit?" Archer queried with pure disgust. He hated the taste of coffee; it was bitter, even with sugar.
The girl across the road looked directly at him, making eye contact. Archer would have freaked out, thinking she was catching on, but the empty look in her eyes said that she was looking at him, but wasn't really seeing him.
Slowly, she stood and nodded weakly at the boy before leaving the restaurant.
"Jev, try not to get killed. I have to run." Archer told the tall Hispanic boy. Jev didn't hear him though, for he was too busy devouring doughnuts. Archer sighed and patted Jev's back, then left as quietly as he had come.
Nova's Point Of View ~
"I'm not lying, I took a bath in spaghetti for my fifth birthday." Alec told me, grinning widely. I laughed and shook my head, remembering
what my birthday wish had been when I was a kid.
"I wanted to meet Dale Earnhardt Jr. The difference is that I didn't get to." I told Alec. He laughed with a shake of his head and started eating his calzone. I grabbed my fork to take another bite out of mine when I saw it: a small symbol carved into the table. It sent cold chills down my spine that downright paralyzed me. It looked like an upside down peace sign without the circle to surround it.
I ripped my eyes away from the symbol and glanced across the street. A pounding headache was working its way through my skull.
"I think I'm going to head back, do you know your way back to the school?" I asked him in a weak voice, and cursed myself for not sounding stronger.
He gave me a worried look, but nodded. "Yeah, I do, but...well, are you okay? You look really pale." Alec's steady eyes held my gaze.
"Yeah," I waved my hand dismissively,"I'm fine." Before he could protest, I hurried out the restaurant.
My head was now throbbing, as if my brain had swelled up and decided to pump like my heart.
"What the hell is happening to me?" I asked the Nova as I slid into her.
