Nova’s Point of View
You know that feeling when you wake up to your mom screaming at you for something you don’t remember? I do now.
“So you expect me to believe that you don’t remember a thing when I watched you leave the house to go buy the milk?” My mom asked crossly as glared at me.
“Mom, I really don’t! I must have blacked out or something, the headache and the pain in my side got really bad, and that was the last thing I remember. I swear.” I pleaded with begging eyes; she scoffed and grabbed her debit card from the counter.
“I’ll just buy it myself.” She mumbled under her breath about worthless children and walked to the door.
“No, I’ll get it, I’m feeling much better,” She gave me a skeptical look “If I don’t bring back the milk, I’ll do dishes for two weeks.” I added, and watched her ponder the thought.
“Three.” Mom said, raising her head high. I sighed, she could drive a hard bargain.
“Okay.” I mumbled and took the card from her. Headlights approached fast into the driveway, so fast, I didn’t have time to think…
.
Archer paced back and forth. “What if she remembers? What if her brain fights it off and she remembers while she’s sleeping? What if-.”
“Enough with the ‘what if’s!” Jev yelled, “Seriously man! Chill, my sources just said the car was on its way.” Jev told Archer lightly.
“What?” Archer screamed “She barely lived and just finished healing less than an hour ago and you already set the car?!”
Jev took a step back and blinked “Well.. yeah, I did it so she wouldn’t have time to start remembering-.”
“She won’t have time to remember, hell; she won’t even have time to think about what happened last night because she’s going to die! Damn it Jev!” Archer grabbed the handle when the door flew open and hit him in the face. “What the-.”
“Hello Archer, I hear you took out one of my reapers tonight.” A tall man in a black drench coat and hat stood before Archer, who was sitting in the floor. The man pulled off his hat and Archer fought the urge to scream like a little girl and piss his pants.
The man was bald, and had no eyes, deep black holes were all that were there, and hanging from his neck was a small, smooth stone, with the same symbol that was in the table at the restaurant on it. “Hello Death, I’m sorry I killed one of your men, but he was interfering with my assignment.” Death roared with laughter.
“He was called for his own assignment, she had the mark of Death, baby. Still does.” Death leaned over Archer with a sadistic grin.
“That’s impossible, he killed her.” Archer said through gritted teeth.
“No, her heart didn’t stop beating, she just stopped breathing. Not to mention I don’t like it when people cheat me.” Death hissed, Archer recoiled
“You’re kidding me.” Archer muttered angrily
“She’s going to get hit by a car, if we can hold Archer long enough he won’t be able to rush to her rescue.” Jev said stiffly in the background. Archer blinked in disbelief. “Her father left work thirty minutes ago, he’ll be there in about twelve minutes.” Jev looked up from his watch with a sly smile on his face that made Archer’s stomach knot.
“You-.” Archer began viciously but was cut off when Death punched him in the face, knocking him out cold.
Jev watched curiously as Death grabbed Archer by his shirt and tossed him outside. “What are you doing? As soon as he comes to he’ll go for her.” Jev said angrily, Death chuckled.
