Chapter Eight: If This Is How It's Going To Be, Count Me In
[Recap]: "Or I could kill you." Avalyn said with a wink, Archer felt his insides melt as he leaned down and gently kiss her lips.
And now, never fear, Chapter Eight is here! Hehe, yeah I know, I'm a dork, deal with it and read the le story! :D
.
I run faster, I hear the my heart pound loudly as if it is beating next to my ear, my legs stretch out as they gain speed. I leap over a fallen tree, placing a hand on the trunk and gracefully swinging my legs over; I land with a small thud.
Slowly I turn my head to the side to listen to all the noises around me with my newly improved hearing, I scan the overhead trees with eyes greater than a hawks. Faintly, I hear it, the soft thuds of footsteps; thirty degrees to my left, and south of my exact location.
Switching my direction to east, I take off running again; it isn’t until I feel the faint fluttering in my stomach that I come to a stop. My opponents are closing in on me. I force myself to think, if I change direction again they will easily cut me off. The only way to get out of this situation is to charge one of my ‘opponents’ head on, side-step him and continue running, if I can get past him then both of the boys will be behind me, then I can easily out-run them.
I wait until the fluttering in my stomach gets a little stronger before charging Aaron, a few more seconds… Now! Quickly I charge west, in Aaron’s direction. Before he can realize my plan I fake dart left then leap over my brother’s head, as soon as my feet touch the ground I’m off on a straight shot to safety.
I run about ten miles in less than five minutes; I halt my steps and wait for the boys, it takes around three minutes before they show, and that was a long time when you can run like the wind.
"Did you stop because you were tired?" Aaron asked hopefully, I giggle and shake my head.
"Nope," I say, popping the 'p' "Why?" I ask curiously as I take in my surroundings. The forest seemed so green, so vibrant, especially now that my senses were heightened. Archer watches me with a sly smile as he leans against a large tree, a tree so large, it would take some work, even for them, to pluck it up.
"Well, we-er-sort of fell behind and couldn't catch you." Aaron mumbles, Archer grins at me like the Cheshire Cat.
"We almost resorted to flying." Archer said, still grinning, I stare at him completely numb. I turn to look at Aaron praying that they aren't being serious, but his face says different; it comfirms my fears..
Slowly I sink to the ground. "So.." I say slowly, drawling out the word "I am a freak." Archer clenches his fists and turns away, Aaron glares at me.
"No, you aren't a freak, Seraphim are faster than Powers and Archangels, it's perfectly natural." Aaron spat out through his clenched teeth.
"Avalyn," Archer said softly, his back still turned from me, Aaron shifted from foot to foot.
"I'll go home, the coffee should be ready by the time you get there." Aaron unfurled his wings and flew up and out of the forest.
"You are no where near being a freak, you are unique, special. I know it's a lot to take in, believe me, but calling yourself a freak isn't going to solve anything." He pauses and turns to look me in the eyes "This is how it's going to be, it's not like you can up and walk away from it, do you understand? This is you." I look down at my Cris-crossed legs, avoiding his penetrating stare that I feel burning holes into my body.
