Chapter Nine: Heaven Or Hell?
[Recap]: I threw myself onto my bed and cried out my eyes as quietly as possible. Waiting for darkness to claim me so I could get away from all of this...
And now chapter nine! :D
Avalyn's POV
Numb.
It was now a noun, and an adjective.
I feel numb. I am numb. My heart is numb. My soul is numb.
Sometimes I even begin to think numb. I don't know how you do that. You just simply do.
It happened when everything in my life went absolutely wrong.
Numb was all I had, all I was, it was me.
Numb.
Entirely numb.
Numb had become a part of me.
A part, that helped knock out the pain and sadness.
The butterflies wouldn't flutter.
I was dead.
Dead.
My mind was dead. I didn't think. I didn't eat. Not this entire weekend.
So when Monday rolled around, I was more than happy to go to school. I put on a regular fitting tee and some shorts, I strolled into the kitchen. Smiled at my gaping brother, and walked out of the house.
Asher wasn't around, thank the dear lord. I hadn't seen or talked to him for three days now. It doesn't seem long, but by golly if my stomach doesn't flip out whenever he is near, and my heart has no problem with causing me pain in his absence.
.
"Nova!" Jace yelled as he picked me up and swirled me around.
"Where the hell have you been?" Alec asks, I rolled my eyes.
"Bed rest, apparently, I wasn't supposed to be at school that early, so I've been laying in bed for the past two weeks. The boys laughed, Jace eyed me worriedly.
"Are you okay now?" I nodded, that way I didn't have to tell them lies anymore.
"Did you know that," Alec paused for dramatic effect "Asher has been playing hooky while you were out, so a rumor happened to spread that you two had run away together." I felt my mouth drop, Jace looked irritated.
"I told you those weren't true." He ground out, I smiled at him and shook my head.
"Damn, on bed rest for two weeks and I'm instantly messing around with the new guy." I muttered as I threw my bag over my shoulder, I was about to invite them to walk with me when the fluttering erupted in my stomach. And I'll be damned if Mr. All Mighty didn't pull up in his fucking Impala. The only thing that kept me from running over there and stripping his clothes off in his back seat was the way he looked.
He looked sick. His skin was pale, he had the darkest circles under his eyes, he even looked thinner. I felt my stomach drop off a cliff. I kicked myself, no Avalyn, he's a dick. He's a dick who made you cry yourself to sleep every night.
Asher's eyes snapped up and met mine, I felt fear ebb through me, the half that wanted to strip him was freaked out that he might have heard my thoughts, the other half hoped he had. Asher tore his eyes away before I did.
"Damn, he looks like he got ran over by a train." Alec commented, Jace stared at me.
"What?" I snapped, Jace didn't even blink, he looked me straight in the eyes.
