Melody's POV
*******************
"Goodbye! Have fun!" I shouted as Jordan and Casey got in the car, they waved as they set off down the street.
Perfect
I closed the door behind me and locked it. Lock the doors because of stranger danger, they told me often.
Ruby was waiting behind me and jumped up and down in excitement.
"Are we going to search their room now? I'm so excited to see what they keep in there."
I nodded and she ran upstairs, I set up my earphones and set them to play, if I was a music sorceress thing, then playing music may help me find stuff.
I headed upstairs and opened the door to Jordan and Casey's room, where Ruby was already looking through the bedside tables.
I scanned the counter tops, disappointed just to find the usual stuff, deodorant, Casey's makeup, a jewellery box by a mirror with earrings and necklaces scattered around it.
Nothing suspicious there, but that's expected, they wouldn't hide anything in plain sight.
I walked over to their wardrobes and started to sort through them, maybe they've hid something within their clothes.
As I was rummaging, Ruby came over to me and sat down next to me. She helped me take the clothes out of the top drawer. We were lucky, there was no need to put them back in neatly as they were already untidy.
There was nothing in the top drawer, so we searched the middle drawer. Nothing. After closing the middle drawer, I pulled the handle on the bottom drawer.
It didn't budge.
I tried harder but it wasn't going anywhere.
"Look" Ruby said, pointing towards a metal flap at the end of the drawer. I reached over and moved it, underneath was a key hole.
Bingo
One problem though. Key holes require keys.
"Did you find any keys while looking in the bedside tables?" I asked, turning to face Ruby.
She shook her head.
"Nope, just bits and bobs that don't really mean anything."
Where would a key be?
"To be honest, if keeping this secret is really important to them, they probably carry the key with them all of the time. Like on their car keys."
Ruby nodded in agreement, and we both admitted defeat.
Then suddenly, we both heard a slight bang.
We turned around to the source of the noise and found Casey's jewellery box on the floor, the lid had opened and bits of jewellery landed all over the floor.
I looked at Ruby and stood up. As I eyed the counter top where the box was previously kept, I noticed that the jewellery there had not moved an inch.
For this to have happened, somebody would have to have picked it up and threw it.
"Did you do that?" I asked Ruby, who tilted her head in confusion at me.
"I was sitting here the entire time. Last time I checked I didn't have super speed. Maybe your magic did it?"
I furrowed my eyebrows. Wouldn't i have had to do something to make that happen? Like hocus pocus or something.
"I don't think so, I didn't do anything to try and make something happen." I replied.
I walked over to the jewellery box on the floor and picked it up, and instantly dropped it again when I felt tingles traverse up my arm.
Woah.
Ruby jumped as I squeaked from surprise.
"What?"
My mind remembered the previous incident of this happening an hour ago in my bedroom, with my school book.
"Nothing, just had some static on it, made me jump." I explained. Hoping that was all it was.
I didn't notice a figure this time, or a voice, which was good. It was probably just static shock.
I bent down and picked up the box again, which was now empty from being dropped twice.
I started to collect the bits of jewellery from the floor until my hand grazed over a small bag.
The urge to look inside was taking over me, so I did. A small key was inside.
"YES!" I shouted. Making Ruby jump. I turned around and showed her the key. A big smile grew on her face.
I quickly put the rest of the jewellery back into the box and headed over to the locked drawer.
I sized up the key to the lock and the sizing seemed right.
I smiled at Ruby and put the key in and twisted. There could be nothing of importance in here. But im hopeful.
As I pulled the drawer open, my eyes widened and furrowed in confusion at the same time.
The drawer was full of old looking books, and in the corner, another bag, but bigger.
I felt a pull towards the bag, so I grabbed it and opened it.
There was a tiny pair of headphones in it, and at the bottom, another bag which had a rectangular shape to it.
I opened the small bag, and was confused when I found a needle, in a small rectangular box, with some form of blue liquid inside.
I turned to Ruby, who returned the confused look.
I swiftly put the needle back into the bag, and picked up the headphones.
I felt a wave rush over me as I held them, I felt more awake, more alert, like I could do anything.
"Look!" Ruby said, pointing at the headphones. I looked down at them to find them getting bigger.
I watched in awe as they grew, until they stopped. At just the right size to put on my head.
"I wonder if they still work."
They're wireless, so I connected them to bluetooth on my phone.
"Look at its name." I showed Ruby my phone.
Pair with Melody's Headphones?
"They're yours!" She exclaimed. I nodded excitedly and paired them.
As I pressed play on my music, I put them on my head and felt tingles scatter all throughout my body.
"You're... you're glowing!" Ruby stuttered, moving back slightly in awe.
I looked down at my hands and gasped, they were glowing a magenta colour.
I looked up at Ruby and she gasped.
"Your eyes, they're the same colour, they're both pink!"
I stood up and looked in Casey's mirror, she was right, they're both the same colour.
It was then I noticed.
Standing behind me in the mirror, was a hooded figure, slightly transparent.
He looked up and I could see the glint in his lifeless eyes.
Melody?!
