My eyes felt frozen. I couldn't tear myself away from Jareth no matter how hard I tried and at the same time, I didn't want to. I let myself lean into him and my eyes fluttered shut as his breath lightly grazed my lips, teasing them before he closed the gap between us.
It was like time stopped. My senses heightening with every second. I wanted this moment to last forever, or as long as it possibly could at least. No sooner the moment took place, it ended as we parted and his right hand found its way to my cheek, caressing it with utmost care.
"We will make more plans tomorrow." I smiled what could be called a 'real' smile at him for the first time since the beginning of my stay and nodded, "Goodnight precious."
"Goodnight Jareth."
I ventured back to my chambers to meet Lily who was to assist me in choosing and dressing in my nightly attire before leaving me to dream my dreams alone. I couldn't help but actually let a soft giggle out, feeling happy for the first time in goodness knows how long. As it felt like only a few weeks had passed to me in real time, the Underground always ran a little differently, so I could easily say that it's the happiest I've been in the last months since I've wished myself to become Jareth's companion.
"Did something happen between you and the king?" Lily smiled, she had definitely been taking the lessons I was giving her very well in her speaking skills, and was definitely enjoying them. She adjusted my gown and finished braiding my hair.
"No Lily... nothing at all." Her expression and the eye-roll that followed it clearly showed how unconvinced she was at that particular sentence, as we said our goodnights, ready to begin the routine again in the morning.
The next morning was a flurry of business. Preparations were flying left and right, as the planners of our engagement ball were setting the event up. A gown was picked for me, hanging upon the hanger on the doorknob. No doubt, Lily had chosen this particular gown for me - a lovely lilac to accentuate my features. No sooner I was out of bed, the door opened.
"Good morning Bernadette! I hope you slept well." Lily entered, armed with a few things as she hastily sat me in front of the vanity. I nodded and yawned as she went to work, untying the braid and setting my locks into a gorgeous up-do."Thank you Lily. It's stunning." I was immediately pulled out of my seat and forced to stand in front of the mirror as she threw the corset over my frame. It was almost as if I'd slept nude, my clothes had disappeared that quickly. It was pointless to debate with Lily, as everything was happening way too quickly by the time she had pulled the laces up tightly on my corset. The only thing I had to remind myself to do, was breathe.
I stood like a stunned mullet, absolutely amazed by my appearance.
"The king is awaiting your arrival for breakfast. You don't want to make him wait do you?" I shook my head. Of course, I wasn't going to leave him waiting. My brain wondered back to last night, my lips tingling at the thought of the kiss as it played over on a loop. By the time I finished daydreaming, Lily had left and it was time for me to make my way to the Great Hall.
