Like diamonds buried deep within mines, those which can only be discovered when searched for, hidden relationships are scattered everywhere as far as the eye could see. Ouran students keep them hidden so as to not spread rumors or let the public know, especially considering where they come from and who their parents are. But then, there are some who also keep their relationships from the light... simply for the heck of it.
In order to have an understanding of the current mess, let's sort out the old moments in the past first.
It all started on a pleasant day in Spring, when the cherry blossoms are not yet ready to drift off the branches of the trees. The Ouran middle school hallways are empty due to the students currently sitting in their classes. However, one particular student stood in the outdoor hallways right near the fountain, watching the trees dance with the calming breeze before checking her watch to see if it was time yet.
But it wasn't the watch that confirmed it for her.
"Sorry I'm late. I hope you weren't waiting too long," he said, grasping her attention from behind.
The girl turned around to meet his gaze, and her appearance, for a second, confused him. If he broke his act, he would've winced in disgust.
Rough long black hair, untamed as though she just rolled out of bed. And then there are her bangs that nearly covered her eyes if it weren't for the thick-rimmed glasses. Of course, the only feature that stood out to him was her piercing blue eyes, but he couldn't exactly make it out unless she were to take off her ugly glasses.
She's so... plain. This was the girl who left a letter in his desk?
"So it's you, huh? Nice letter you wrote," he murmured then pulled the envelope out from his pocket to display it to her.
Gosh. His fingers itched to pull out lipgloss for her plain pink lips. Her appearance screams for a makeover...
She nodded as her lips parted, although seeming slightly nervous when fumbling with her fingers and holding a tendency to look away after meeting his gaze for a second. "Um... You must be wondering why I called you here, Hitachiin Hikaru."
What's with the formalities?
Clearing his head, he tried not to slyly smirk, now ready to wrap her around his finger. "Sorry, but, I'm Kaoru." The second she lightly gasped as to display her surprise, he knew he got her. "You must've confused me with Hikaru, and put your letter in my desk instead."
Her fingers stopped twitching as her lips now pursed, starting to drown herself in bafflement and calculations. And because of this, Hikaru raised an eyebrow, wondering how many times it's been for the same thing to happen where girls still couldn't realize that he was the actual Hikaru.
Regardless, he continued on.
"Do you think you can choose me instead of Kaoru? Seeing you up close like this, you're pretty cute," he said, knowing that lying like this would be worth it when he'll get to see the tears well in her eyes. Until then, he must press on to get her hopes up. "Hikaru likes someone else. Liking me won't be that different right? So, what do you say?"
