Serenity's P.O.V

I was proud of the work I had done in the Pack house. I had incorporated the colors of Autumn (orange, brown, yellow, and even black) in the flowers and decorations. I had made sure that Donovan didn't plan or know a thing about the Ball. I was very surprised about his family history and I knew his past was a dark one, but I wanted to be spared the details of it for now. I had gotten ready in a separate room, as is tradition, but I already missed him terribly. During the weeks after the cemetery talk we had actually become closer. It was the first time I had ever really felt the power of being a Luna and I felt as though I had grown in myself too. I smiled at my reflection and thanked the Omega, who's name was Janie, that had helped me get ready.

"What do you think, Janie?"

"What do you think, Janie?"

"Very beautiful, my Luna," she said, smoothing out my black evening dress. She opened the door for me as I walked through. "Alpha Donovan is going to be waiting on the other side of the double doors," she said, "They will announce you, bow and you walk down the steps to meet him." I nodded as we neared the double doors of the ball room. "Do you require anything else of me, Luna?"

"No, thank you, Janie." She bowed, keeping her eyes low, and walked away towards the kitchen.

This was it.

The double doors burst open and I stood tall, radiating my Luna power. "Her majesty, Luna Queen Serenity Mate to our Alpha King Donovan, crafted in beauty and intelligence." I smiled and looked into Donovan's eyes that were shining with pride. I took his outstretched hand and bowed my head to acknowledge his power.

"You look stunning, my love."

I smiled. "Thank you." I took this time to admire his own appearance that took my breath away. He wore a black suit, tie, and shoes with a white shirt. The shirt clung to his chest, accenting his abs and pecs while his suit jacket outline his toned biceps. That was all mine.

"Care to join me for a dance, Luna?" He bowed and I nodded as he led me to the dance floor. All eyes were on us as we swirled about with the slow music. "I can't seem to focus on anything but you," he whispered, pulling me close. "You are easily the most beautiful she-wolf I have ever seen." A blush crept up my cheeks at his appraisal. He kissed them and I looked to see everyone in attendance smiling at us. "Gorgeous."

"Donovan, people are staring."

"Let them stare," he shrugged, "I want them to know you're mine." It was then that my eyes caught the one person who wasn't smiling at all, in fact he was glaring at us and it made me very unsettled. His bright yellow eyes seemed to pierce into my chest and his midnight black hair fell into his face. His arms were crossed, flexing his biceps that weren't near as impressive as Donovan's and he seemed to be pondering something as he watched us. I looked away quickly and felt my heart sink as I saw him approach us.

"Alpha Donovan," he said, his raspy voice making me want to cringe. "May I cut in." It sounded more like a demand than a request.

"I don't think-"

"Don't make a scene, Alpha," he growled. I was shocked that he A.) Demanded to dance with me and B.) Interrupted Donovan while he was talking. This man had guts. Donovan growled, but nodded, kissing me right in front of him. He gripped my hips in his hands and shoved his tongue down my throat. Nadia was howling with joy as I melted into his mouth. All too soon, he pulled away and sent a glare the man's way. I felt a sense of dread as the stranger wrapped his arms around me. "Relax, your majesty, I'm Alpha Lester." He started swaying with me and I awkwardly set my hand on his shoulder.

"Why did you want to dance with me, Alpha Lester?"

"Just Lester will do," he winked, "I did it to annoy my cousin."

I frowned. "Who is your cousin?"

"Alpha Donovan, of course. He clearly doesn't talk about me."

"No," I shook my head.

"That's a shame. Tell me, doll, where did he find you?"

I felt like grimacing. I hated brining up my past. "Well..."

I saw Donovan making his way over and I relaxed."I think that's enough, Lester. We need to get on with the ceremony." He took my hand and led me over to a long table with two big, throne-like chairs in the middle beside each other. He pulled out my chair and helped me sit. I smiled as he sat next to me, kissing my knuckles. He stood and clanked his knife against his glass. "Thank you all for coming out tonight to celebrate Serenity and I's love. She has been an absolute blessing from the Moon Goddess to heal and to re-build. If anyone has any reason that she should not be Luna of this pack speak now or forever hold your tongue." Isn't it supposed to be peace? Oh, well. There was silence and I smiled. "Well, then I now announce that Serenity is now the-" before he could get out the words, bricks flew through the window, shattering the glass and even hitting a few guests. I screamed as one came hurling through the window next to me. Donovan's hand reached out to knock the brick away, a loud crunch echoing over the shouts.

"Donovan! Are you alright?"

"Yes, it's fine, love. I'll heal. Are you hurt?"

"No." He looked down at the brick that almost hit me and saw a piece of paper held to it by a thin, rubber band. I bent down and unwrapped it, reading what was on it.

All cows are branded by their owners; she's mine.

I gasped and my hand went straight to my left hip where the hideous scar was.

No.
