Summer 2017
Addison's POV:
"I swear, they won't let us sleep til we're dead, and I'm having doubts" I smile at Meredith, as I make pancakes on the stove. It was almost 7 in the morning, and we were up already.
"It's summer, and we're in LA for the next few weeks, you know they love the beach" Meredith looks fondly out onto the back patio of our LA summer house, smiling at three of our gorgeous children.
"The baby's awake" I inform her, hearing the little whimpers over the baby monitor "would you mind getting her, while I feed the other three?"
"Of course, baby" Meredith kisses my temple, and heads upstairs where our youngest daughter was sleeping.
We had three girls and one boy; each one perfect in every little way. I carried two, our first and our last, while Meredith carried our middle daughter and our son.
"Claire honey, can you get your sisters and tell them it's time for breakfast please?" I ask, setting the table. The kids wanted to go outside and play around for a little bit before breakfast, and being the oldest, Claire was the most responsible. Even at four years old, I knew I could rely on her to get everyone inside.
"Alright" Meredith declares, placing the sleepy baby gently down into her high chair. "Phoebe is ready for breakfast, aren't you baby girl?" Meredith cooed at our eight month old. Phoebe was definitely our last, so we were cherishing every minute with her while she was still a tiny baby.
"Andrew! Shoes at the door please, I don't want sand to get on the carpet" I remind our son, who's only three but still manages to be a trouble maker. He was absolutely adorable, identical to Meredith, and always got himself into troublesome situations.
The kids were only on the patio where we could keep an eye on them, there was a baby gate up by the stairs so they couldn't go down to the beach or wander into the ocean. But Drew still managed to get full of sand.
"Where's Ella?" Meredith asks, helping Andrew up into his chair.
"She's right there, Mama" Claire points to where Ella is fast asleep on the couch; she wasn't a morning person, despite her brother and sister. Ella, so it seemed, had more in common with Phoebe than the older two.
"I suppose Ella bug will have to wait until she eats; I wouldn't want to wake her up" I say, cutting up pancakes and putting them onto little plastic baby plates for the kids. "Who wants strawberries and bananas?" I ask, trying to incorporate fruit into breakfast.
"Can I have blueberries?" Claire asks me, hair falling out of her braid already. She was a little ginger, just like Phoebe and just like me. Ella and Andrew were both blonde as could be, just like Meredith.
"Of course, sweetie"
"Can I have blueberries too?" Meredith asks jokingly, opening a jar of baby food to feed Phoebe.
"Of course sweetie" I say, mockingly this time. As a joke, I cut up a pancake with some blueberries for Meredith too, and place it in front of her along with Claire's blueberries and pancakes, and Andrews strawberries and pancakes.
"This is why I married you" Meredith decides, looking down at her obnoxiously pastel pink plastic plate. "You feed me. And you make pretty babies. Doesn't Mama make pretty babies, Clairey?"
Claire nods "Phoebe is a pretty baby. Was I a pretty baby Mama?" She turns and asks me, as if it were really a question.
"You were a gorgeous baby, and you're a gorgeous little girl now" I pour her up some milk, and turn to Andrew (who's somehow managed to get strawberries and sand in his hair) "do you want some milk, or some more sand?" I joke.
"Milk" he agrees, sticky little baby fingers holding the cup as I pour milk into it.
"Be careful not to-" before I can even get the words out, he's got milk down the front of his shirt. "Spill it" I sigh, picking up a towel and wiping him up. He'd need a bath before lunch, at this rate.
"Mommy?" Ella sits up from the couch, rubbing her little fists over her eyes. Meredith goes over and of course, picks her up for some snuggles. Ella was all snuggles, especially when she was tired. Claire considered herself too big for snuggles, and if Andrew could stay still long enough to eat it was a miracle.
"Did you sleep well baby?" I ask Ella, as Meredith sits down at the table, Ella buried in the crook of her neck.
I hear a muffled 'yeah', and smile softly, before sitting down next to Meredith.
My kids were absolutely perfect; each in their own little way. And looking at them made me love Meredith so much more; they all had little bits of her in them, wether it was Claire's determination, Andrew's stubbornness, Ella's kind hearted nature or Phoebe's silly attitude.
My children made me love Meredith more than I could've ever imagined, and looking at them, they were something beautiful.
