Phil was curled up on the sofa with his head in his hands. He was watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer to try and calm his nerves but he couldn't help but to worry about Gabbie. Would she be ok? Would she get teased? Would she make friends? The anxiety crashed around in his mind like waves on the shore, disturbing the sand of his rationality. Dan noticed his friend's discomfort and offered him a bowl of dry cereal. Phil looked up in surprise. "You always steal it so I know you like my Crunchy Nut. Just this once, I'm letting you have some but this is a one time thing!" Phil took the bowl gladly and started to eat. Dan sat down next to him and settled into the sofa crease to watch the show.
Long after Phil had finished his cereal and many episodes of Buffy had been and gone, worry began to fill Phil again. It brought tears to his eyes, catching Dan's attention and causing him to immediately worry about Phil. "Now I'm scared. You never cry! What's the matter?" Tears ran down his friends face, making a lump rise in Dan's throat. "It's just Gabbie. I'm scared for her. We found our first days hard but after what she's been through I just don't know if she can do it!" Dan understood immediately. He had the same anxiety, he was just better at hiding it than Phil. He pulled his friend into a big hug. "It's ok," he said, "I'm feeling the exact same. But it's Gabbie we're talking about here. She's one of the strongest people I've ever met!" Phil nodded in agreement. "I know. I can't help but to be worried!" Dan cocked his head slightly and smiled. "I know." He sat down next to his friend and put his arms around his shoulders. Phil rested his head on Dan's shoulder and he rested his on Phil's head. "I love you." Dan said quietly. "What was that?" Phil questioned. "Errrr nothing!!" he said hurriedly. Dan swiftly turned his head away, aware that his face has gone completely red. Without Dan's knowledge, Phil smiled softly. He knew what he said. He knew how he felt. It just wasn't the right time to tell him the same thing.
The moment was interrupted by a quiet buzz coming from Phil's pocket. Phil picked up his phone and read the text aloud. They both beamed. "You see!" Dan said, "Told you she'd be fine! She's already made a friend!" Phil agreed and sent a reply text. "Guess we're having company for dinner. What should we have?" The friends thought for a few minutes then Dan said "Shall we just get a Pizza Hut?" "Sounds like a great idea!" Then they both snuggled into the sofa and watched X-Files.
