After she went home with Phil, told him about what had happened with Christa and fangirled endlessly about it, Gabbie slept for the rest of the day and most of Saturday, only being woken up to eat. On Sunday, the two of them went to the hospital to visit Dan but it looked like there was no change at all. They must have looked worried because the doctor said that he was definitely improving although it didn't look like it. Gabbie and Phil breathed a sigh of relief, stayed with Dan for a while then headed home to film a video in an attempt to brighten the mood.

The following Wednesday, while Gabbie was at school, Phil was at the hospital once again. It had been nearly a week since Dan had had the accident and, although his condition had improved massively, he hated to see his friend like this. Friend. Phil almost hated that word now. Dans absence had set an enormous weight on his mind about their current relationship status and it made his blood boil at its current state. He wanted it to be something more but while Dan was laying here in this godforsaken hospital bed, there was no movement on the cards. Tears of frustration left his blue eyes and he leaned forward to rest his head in Dan's surgery gown. He sobbed a little and read aloud what was in his head. "I miss you." A deep breath. Phil lifted his head, wiped his eyes and looked at Dan's lifeless face. He tried to smile, failed and said "I love you. More than you know." The seconds of silence that followed destroyed Phil and he rested his head in his hands and began to cry once more.

Dan was still conscious and could hear everything but was unable to move. He had heard what Phil had said and wanted to reply, wanted to tell him how he really felt, but he couldn't. Dan was trapped inside his own mind, constantly pushing and shoving against the walls in an attempt to leave. It was exhausting and to no avail. For days, his efforts had been in vain and the situation seemed hopeless. But Phil was still there. Waiting for him. He had to try. Once again, he kicked and screamed against the mental blocks, begging for them to move out of the way. They maintained a strong stature although they were obviously swayed by the emotion from the heart. Dan kept trying. For Phil.

Dan's eyes fluttered. Phil thought he had imagined it but it happened again. And again. And again. His mouth twitched. His face screwed up. Phil shot to his feet and took Dan by his shoulders and shook him gently. "Come on Dan. Wake up!"

The mental blocks crumbled and granted passage. Finally he could go home. To Phil. A door had opened and Dan didn't hesitate as he strode through it.

Phil couldn't believe what he was seeing as the person he cared for most in the world sat up and rubbed his eyes. He stared open-mouthed at Dan as he smirked and said, "Hey. Thanks for waiting." Phil couldn't stop the tears as he through himself at Dan, exclaiming his relief and gladness excessively. Dan sighed. "I missed you too." He tried to act cool but his voice was thick with emotion. After a good ten minutes, Phil broke away from the hug and wiped his eyes. He breathed deeply, composing himself. Dan already knew what was coming and stopped him right before he spoke. "I already know what you're going to say because I could still hear everything! Phil Lester!" The sarcasm was clear but it didn't stop a blush from creeping across Phil's face. "And," Dan continued, his turn to take a deep breath. ",I love you too" Phil's pale face lit up and he beamed at Dan and hugged him again. Dan laced his hands around Phil's waist and snuggled further into his shoulder. He was glad to be home. And life was only gonna get better from here.
