Vanessa's POV:

Though Lance's mother denied wanting any help, I knew I would feel guilty if I didn't help. So I followed her into the kitchen where she rinsed and I placed into the dishwasher.

"Vaness, please call me Tam, Mrs. Fields is too formal for my son's girlfriend. Now, tell me more about you. Lance refused to even tell me your last name!"

"Um, well I think he had good reason to. Have you heard of the Wellingtons?"

"Yea, don't they have a daughter? Actually, now that I think about it, you have a striking resemblance to Mr. Wellington."

"Yes, that's because I'm the daughter."

Tam looked at me and her eyes widened,

"I can't believe it. No offense dear, but I never thought my Lance would date the Wellington daughter! Well, I have nothing to say except, welcome to the Fields' Family dear. I'm glad Lance saw that roommate ad." She dried her hands and wrapped me up in a motherly embrace. I hugged back, glad that she approves. When we did pull apart and finish the dishes the conversation flowed smoothly, as she asked about my hobbies and interests.

BOOM! CRACK! We stopped the water and watched as the front tree got hit by lightning and crashed down onto the driveway, where luckily no cars were, but the large trunk blocked the whole thing.

"Well, it looks like you'll be staying here! Better go tell Lance!" She told me, shooing me out of the kitchen.

Lance's POV:

I hope my mother hasn't pried too much, though knowing her, she probably has. I hope Vaness is okay. I let out a subconscious sigh, thinking about her.

"Lance! I have never seen you so distracted? You are thinking about Vanessa, aren't  you? Don't even bother denying it, it's written all over your face." My older brother, Troy chided, rolling his eyes.

"Um...uh....what were you saying?" I stuttered, flashing him a guilty smile.

"I was saying, is this the girl you fought the contract for?" He asked, giving me a knowing smile.

"Of course! Who else would I fight a contract with dad for?"

"When's the wedding? You are so whipped, brother. Better get gram's ring sized and dry cleaning your tux," Troy chuckled.

"Haha, funny Troy. We've only gone on one date, I doubt she'd say yes already." I admitted, knowing that Troy, the married one out of us two is better at all of this.

"It took only 7 dates with Tara to know that she is the One. Love doesn't follow a schedule, Lance."

And with that, a bolt of lightning lit up the night sky, jolting Lance and Troy out of their seats. From the window they saw the front tree crash down, blocking the driveway.

"Guess you are staying here, brother! Better tell your girl we are having a sleepover," Troy suggested, kicking me out of the office.
