"Aren't you guys so sad that it's the last day of camp." Lexi chirped, waking everyone up. I checked my watch, it was 7:30, and hour before the bus came. Lexi ran around the cabin chattering to everyone, not noticing their stares of shock and fright. West and I stifled a laugh and managed to nod as she skipped by us. As 8:30 approached I headed out of the cabin and looked for the bus labeled 318. It was at the back of the line and the bus driver had a special clip board which I inferred only had the names of the people in the training group written down. It took quite a while for tall the people to filter into their respective busses.
After half an hour the bus filled up with the ten people, Andi, Oreo, Eliza, West, Andrew, Lexi, Cody, Chris, Charlie, and I. we all headed toward the back of the bus. I sat on the last seat, which only had room for one person. Andi and Charlie sat on the right of me, Eliza and Oreo took the seat in front of me, while West and Cody both took seats by themselves. Lexi and Andrew slid into the seats across from me, forcing Andi and Charlie to move up a seat. Chris walked down the aisle contemplating where to sit. When he saw me in my seat alone the frowned. I smiled and shrugged, gesturing the suitcase that took up all remaining space. He rolled his eyes and took the seat next to West. After she threatened to knock his teeth out he slid across the bus into the seat next to Cody.
We took the five minute bus ride around the camp and jumped off the bus as we approached the camping grounds again. "Welcome to your first week of Vampire Hunting Training." West smiled, getting of the machine. "First training of the day, BREAKFAST." Everyone cheered and headed to the lunch hall. I ran toward the front of the small crowd to catch up with West. As we entered the cafeteria West counted the number of people. But only nine were there.
"Lexi's probably off ruining someone's life." I shrugged and took a seat next to West at our normal table.
"Yeah, but this is unusual. No one ever leaves the pack." West gestured to the rest of the people in the seemingly large cafeteria.
"Well she's new, maybe she doesn't know that." I thought aloud.
"But if she was now, wouldn't that make her want to stay near us and figure out how our camp goes on?" West asked. Her question was answered seconds later when the intercom blared through the speakers.
"Hello vampire hunters. As all of you know, I am Lexi. I am sure you're looking forward a spectacular year of training, but I am sad to say that's not going to happen, for some of you, that will never happen and my vampire friends Chris and Cody will make sure of that." I spun around to find Cody and Chris headed toward the door of the cafeteria.
"You go figure out what they're going to do, I'll find Lexi." West disappeared into the cafeteria and I turned and headed toward Chris and Cody.
"What's going on?" I asked, pretending to be calm.
"Oh you'll find out soon enough." Cody winked, pulling the handle for one of the door.
"There is one thing I've always wanted to do before this happened." Chris said, grabbing me around the waist.
"Stop." I struggled as he brought me closer to him. I didn't know what he was doing until his fangs penetrated my fair skin. A shot of pain burst through my body as I clasped my ever so slightly bleeding neck.
"Wha-" I stuttered stepping back. Every move I made was so painful. I felt blood rushing through my body, blocking out all signals. "Sorry it had to end this way babe." Chris smiled and slipped out the door.
The pain was too intense. My eyes rolled back as my head collided with the laminate floor. Then I felt the explosion. West ran over to me. "Melody! You have to get up! I found a window." I struggled to move but my body was paralyzed. "Come on." She growled, tugging on my arms. Finally she gave up and began to pull me towards the open window. She heaved me out of the doomsday building and onto the grass outside. Then Andi, Oreo, and Eliza jumped out of the building.
"Come on Melody, we have to get you away from here." They said, pulling me deeper into the woods. I kept my head tilted up so I could see the large building. In the distance two blurred figures were running towards me, Andrew and Charlie. Where was West?
I struggle to speak, but could only make out dissonant sounds. "W-e-sss" I muttered.
"She didn't make it." Andrew sighed kneeling next to me. "Melody, I'm so sorry. For everything. All of this was my fault. If I hadn't started dating Melody, none of this would have happened."
"Nn-o wo-rrr-e-ssss" I forced a smile and faded into a deep comatose state.
A week later, I woke up in a bright hospital room with intense craving for blood.
