"What a fucked-up day it's starting to become." Lorie says to herself as she is cleaning coffee off her shirt. "Great, just what I fucking needed, a stained shirt on my first day of my dream job." The anger, sarcasm and frustration was enough to set her off to speed her way to work. She was already 15 minutes away from the studio room, no way would she turn back. She grabbed a hoodie from the back of her car seat and put it on. She wore ripped black jeans and a grey hoodie with some grey converse. Her hair was long and brown, it was down to her butt. Her height was enough to be noticed in a crowd, but was also very inconvenient at a basketball game. 5'4 and Mexican, although she was a bit different than her family. She was a golden nugget, her skin glowed in a light caramel color. Her face round, her eyes brown, she wasn't exactly in shape but she wasn't out of shape either. She had the goods where she was supposed to have them. When she arrived at the complex, she was greeted by Oliver.
"Ms. Phelps if you may, please." Oliver, her assistant, reached out for her coffee and mini backpack. Oliver was a very tall (6'3), built, sort of a geek but very good-looking man. To Lorie's surprise he was still in the market and older than her. 9 years to be exact. Lorie gave him her backpack and kept her coffee since it was almost gone, what with the fall and all.
"So, are you ready for today? Are you excited? Nervous? Do you need me to bring you anything? Name it." Oliver seemed just as tense as Lorie did, it was both their first day and they shared that.
"Listen, when I need something I will gladly let you know, but for now, could you just keep quiet please? I know it's our first day on this job, but I really need to concentrate in what I am about to tell these guys." Oliver nodded in agreement, they've known each other for a couple of years ever since she moved down to L.A. They're neighbors and got close as they became the best of friends with time.
"Hey Lorie, glad you made it on time, I hope that traf-. Why are you wearing a hoodie?" John, her boss, asked in confusion. Lorie instantly got flushed with embarrassment.
"I was driving over here and I went through a speed bump that completely caught me off guard and well, I spilt coffee on myself." Lorie looked up at John who was smiling and he started to giggle.
"It's alright Lorie, the important thing is that you made it and we will gladly take care of your shirt. It'll be ready in about two hours." Lorie went to the restroom took off her shirt and bra since it smelled of coffee and was beginning to get sticky. She handed over her clothes to Oliver who left as soon as possible to the dry cleaners.
"Lorie, before you go in there, I have to confess something to you." John stopped Lorie before entering the room, where she was going to make her productions happen.
"What is it?" Lorie asked.
"Well you know how you were supposed to direct and produce for One Direction?" Lorie nodded, in sort of a powerful way. "Well, they decided to go in another direction." John laughed at his own joke, while Lorie looked confused and mad at the same time.
"What do you mean another direction? They went with a different producer?" Lorie was furious, she kept her eyes on John and then stared at the door in agony.
"They just felt, that to produce music videos that it should be with someone who has more experience and th-"Lorie interrupted. "I didn't bust my ass for the past 4 years in college to make it here and not produce, if they left, well then that's fine. Do I have your permission to direct someone else's band?" John opened the door and to Lories' surprise there were 4 men standing in the room.
"Lorie, meet your new project. This is James, that's Kirk, there's Lars and that is Robert." Lorie froze at the sight of the Metallica band members.
"You got me Metallica?" Lorie finally spoke.
"Well when the opportunity presents itself, you take it. They just happened to be looking for a producer the day before One Direction bailed on us. I gave their manager call, referred to you and liked your work." John looked content of his doing.
"That's the most amazing thing any boss of mine has ever done for me, thank you so much. I promise I won't let you down just like you didn't with me." Lorie went straight for a firm handshake and was surprised with a hug from her boss. "I've seen your work, you're going to work wonders and I know it." John left after saying goodbye to everyone and wished Lorie lots of luck on her new project.
