Painful Prentend
The heart will always long for the one it wants.
"Emy can I ask you out on a date?"
"No Tommie" just like a muscle reflex from her throat, Emy blurted out.
She heard a few seconds of silence then followed by a low sigh, "Just what I thought."
"Good night Tommie." she said and hung up...
"Damon, can we talk?" Emy gathered all her strength in the following day as he approached her 'boyfriend' in the locker area.
She saw how cool Damon closed his locker as he transferred his sight to her, not the look he would always give her during their first few weeks of pretend. The look in his eyes seems to make her think and feel that she is unwanted.
"We're now talking." he sarcastically answered and smirked. Not much of the Damon she knew.
"No,I mean somewhere private." she said as she looked down and fidgeted.
"Okay. What is it about?" he boringly asked.
"About our pretend agreement." she looked up to see him and she saw a change of expression for a mere second.
"See me at the bleacher in the field later. Around four in the afternoon." he said and smiled while putting the sling of his backpack in one shoulder and walked off.
She hated that he is treating her like that. However, she is happy that he agreed to talk with her. She miss Damon's old self. She miss how they had fun before they argued about a stupid mistake she committed.
Emy fidgeted as she waited for him. It is already 4:30 yet there is no sign of Damon yet. But then she still waited, she has to because there is so much she wanted to tell him. She wanted to apologize to him.
"Hey, sorry I was late." A voice spoke which made her happily look at the owner of the voice but it was the same dead expression earlier.
"It's okay. You're here now." She smiled.
"What do you want to talk about?" He inquired.
"I want to talk about us." She shyly replied.
"Do you want to stop pretending?"
She immediately stiffened from his question and fear followed. "Of course not. Why would we stop pretending?"
"Aren't you getting tired?" He asked again.
"No." She answered.
"You're the greatest pretender that I've ever known." He smirked while looking at her. His words were painful like it was laced with insult.
Her tears wanted to come out but she fought it back. "Damon, I'm sorry."
"Which mistake are you sorry?" His words sound like he is challenging her to speak up.
"All of it." Her voice is shaking yet she tried to be steady.
"Do you even know all your mistakes?" He chuckled.
She stared at him helplessly. She never thought this kind of conversation would be hard. She wanted to make it up to him but it is so hard to find the right words to say.
"D-Damon... I didn't mean to throw all those hurtful words at you... I'm s-sorr:
"I'm angry at you because you are so naive on what you feel but I am angrier at myself for choosing to be a part of your life when I had all the opportunity to not be a part of it!" He said and leaned backwards on the upper bleacher.
