Smooth-sailing

"We need to talk"

Tommie is currently reading the recent report trouble on the expenses that the company's finance office submitted to him when he heard his door opened and his secretary informed him of a person who wants to talk to him without setting an appointment.

The person could be one of the employees that he fired recently. He didn't bothered to look who the person was.

"What brings you here?" Tommie asked with hands clasped as it supported his chin. Exuding a superior aura.

"How long are you planning to hide yourself from everyone?" A hint of anger was in Damon's voice.

"Years after years, what made you think I would like to talk to you?" Tommie threw another question without changing his mood.

Damon didn't answer. Instead he handed him a folder he brought from his hospital office. Tommie just flipped through the pages without changing his facial reaction.

"Does she know?" Damon asked in a straight face.

"Does it matter?" Tommie inquired and looked at Damon straight in the eyes.

Damon walked towards Tommie's table and a fist landed on the latter's table. Damon looked at the guy in front of him. His insides want to just punch the guy straight in the face. Yes, he has been out of Emily's life for years but Emily never left his heart. And yet, watching someone who holds Emily's happiness slowly throwing everything away is enough to awaken his rage.

"It. Does. Matter." He replied and he made sure he made emphasis on every word he said.

"Why?" Tommie asked and looked at Damon with curiosity. "Why do you care? After all these years why do you fuckin' care?! Why can't you just let her go and let her be happy with me? You can't just come by and act like you know everything."

It ticked Damon off and he immediately pulled Tommie's necktie while his other hand is balled, ready to punch the stupid man in front of him.

"I can't let her go because I love her. I can't let her go and I can't explain it either. You. You made her happy and I just... I cannot let you make her cry for the second time around." Damon answered and clenched his jaws.

Tommie smiled and pulled Damon's hand away from his suit. It was a smile that showed fear and sadness.

"There's a terrible fast changing of mood in this room." Tommie commented. Then looked up to Damon. "How do you suggest I say goodbye to her? Is it really possible to tell someone goodbye without hurting that someone? Is it really possible to say goodbye to someone you never want to lose?"

"I am not asking you to say goodbye to Emily." Damon answered sternly.

"Then why did you came here, Cain?"

"I came here as your Doctor."

There was silence between them. Tommie stood up and went near the overlooking glass wall. Looking down at the busy corporate streets. He admits to himself, he never had a single person to tell his sickness, not even Emily. He adjusted his necktie and cleared his throat.

"I have never told anyone about me. It feels, how should I say this..... comforting."

"I'm doing this because of Emily. Her happiness means much to me." Damon replied.

"Yes, we both want her to be happy and if given the same fate, I knew you would choose to be selfish." he smiled sadly and faced Damon.

"We're different. My version of happiness is different from yours. A version of happiness that embraces sadness, Tomilson. Learn to love someone properly. I'll call you for your check up appointments." Damon said and walked out of his office.
