Chapter 20

Brittney's pov

It was the middle of the night and I couldn't fall asleep. Luke put up a tent for all of us to sleep in. It helped protect us from the cold wind and made me feel more safe. The boys were both asleep. Max was laying down across from me away from everyone. Luke was half sitting up half laying down with Alex laying down on his stomach with her legs over mine. I sighed knowing how tired I was going to be tomorrow if I didn't fall asleep now. I got up quietly making sure I didn't wake anyone and slid out of the tent. I walked over to the tree root I once was sitting on before and sat down looking up at the stars. The moon shined so bright over the trees creating soft shadows everywhere you looked. 

There was shuffling coming from the tent as a figure stepped out into the moon light. It was Alex, she slowly limped over to me pulling her jacket closer to her body and standing in front of me. 

"Are you okay?" She asked looking concerned and groggy. 

"Yeah, I just couldn't sleep, that's all" I looked up at her and gave a small smile reassuring her that I was okay.

Alex took a seat right next to me and looked up at the stars with me. I could see her eye turning a bit purple and blue now, before it was just red and puffy. Alex seemed... different. Like something changed while we've been apart. Alex looked down at the trees and bushes then too me, catching on that I was looking at her and gave me a smile and little laugh. I looked away and back up at the stars. 

"So you and Luke huh?" I asked giving her a little nudge. She looked down at her hands and laughed. 

"What about us, there's nothing going on" She asked as if there wasn't anything going on. 

"All that cuddling in there sure didn't seem like nothing" Alex rolled her eyes and looked over at me. 

"He's a really awesome guy. I was very lucky to have ran into him. I was hurt badly and he took care of me." 

"But are you guys like together or anything?" I asked like I was trying to knock something out of her but I knew Alex would never keep anything from me. 

Alex sighed. "I-I don't know, really I don't"

"Do you wish something was going on between you two?" A smile crept up on her face. 

"I think I do, I don't know" 

"Well that smile you just gave me tells me different" 

We both laughed and Alex pushed me slightly which just made me laugh even more. Alex hushed me reminding me that the two boys were still asleep inside. After the laughter quiet downed we both looked back up at the stars. Alex rested her head agasint my shoulder. 

"I missed you" She spoke quietly. 

"I missed you too Alex.. I really wish you were there with us" 

"Where?" Alex sat up turning herself to face me once again. 

"Me and Max found this little cottage thing back in the woods and we were there for quite a few days. It was very run down, rotted inside and out" Alex made a disgusted face. 

"Why were you guys there then if it was so dirty?" 

"It was the only place we found and we needed somewhere to stay" I looked over at her, she was nodding her head in understanding.
