'the date'

"So what do you do for work?" Mark asks as he stuffs some chicken into his mouth.

"I work as an assistant at my uncle's real estate company." I smile and bite into a roll.

"That sounds nice."

"It is. So what do you do?"

"I'm a tech designer for at company Jake has."

"Wow. So you're good with technology?"

"You could say that."

"So um you and Jake, how did you two meet?" I didn't want to talk about him but I wanted to know why Jake didn't want me dating him so badly.

"Um. Family friend. His family and mines are close."

"That's nice."

"Yeah, can we not talk about him?" He shrugs and places his fork down loudly.

"Yeah. I'm sorry I didn't know it was a touchy subject."

"It isn't it's just nonsense to talk about him when you two aren't together."

"Okay." I look around and push my plate away. "Thanks for the food."

"You're welcome. Would you like to watch a movie?"

"Sure." We place the dishes into the sink and I help him set up the living room. We find a movie and start to watch. I sit in the couch and start to get comfortable.

"So what did you see in Jake anyway?" Mark scoots closer to me and places his arm around my neck.

"It's nonsense to talk about him, remember?" I snap and look at the movie.

"Come on, this is different." He chuckles and whispers close to my ear. "We don't have to talk about him if you don't want to." I shudder at the feeling of his lips so close to my ear and scoot farther away only for him to pull me back.

"I just want to watch the movie." I say while shifting away from him uncomfortably.

"No one's stopping you, baby." He roughly pulls me towards him again and I try to push him away.

"Ow. You're hurting my arm." I lie.

"Sorry." He loosens his hold on me but still holds onto me. "Better?"

"Sure." I clear my throat and look around for a clock. "What time is it?"

"Nine fifty-seven. Why? Do you have somewhere to be?" He pauses the movie and turns towards me.

"I didn't want to get home too late. I have something to do tomorrow." I try to avoid saying that he's creeping me out.

"What do you have to do?" He squints his eyes at me and I can tell he probably know that I'm lying. I force myself out of his grip and stand up.

"I have to help my roommate with something."

"What?" He stands up and places himself a few inches away from me. To say I was intimidated would be an understatement.

"It's personal. I should really get going. Do you mind dropping me off at the office again?"

"Or I could drop you off at your roommate's house."

"I'm sure she wouldn't like that." I back away and he grabs my elbow.

"I'm sure she wouldn't like picking you up at nine at night."

"She already knew she would be picking me up." I walk away and towards the door. "I just want to get home."

"I don't want to hold you up then." He smiles but the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. He opens the door and I cringe while thinking about what could've happened if I would've stayed over just a little longer.
