Chapter 10
Emily's POV
...
What is even WRONG with me? Why am I suddenly trying to do makeup?
Right now I'm in my room trying to apply eyeliner, but I'm not really good at it. Never have I ever done this before, not even for a special occasion or a party, heck! Not even for my own birthday!
I wasn't going to do anything today but this thing just popped in my mind, so I thought why not?
I made sure that my door was closed, so that mom wouldn't catch me doing makeup.
I opened my laptop and searched on YouTube for makeup tutorials, I tried my hardest not to look like a freak, then I gave up. I washed my face to get rid of the mess that I made and took a bath.
Today, I felt like wearing a blue blouse which had netted sleeves and a pair of white denim shorts. I went down stairs and found Daisy sitting on the couch with my sister.
I gave them a confused look.
"Hey Daisy! When did you come here?" I asked her as I made my way to the recliner.
"Good morning to you too sunshine. I came here just before a couple of minutes." She smiled at me.
"Ok, so what made you come here?" I asked raising my eyebrow.
"Oh! About that..... I need to talk to you about something...." she trailed off.
"Wouldn't it be fine if we conversed over the phone?" I asked confused.
"Well... you see, this isn't something that I would like to talk with you about over a phone. Can we go to your room, please?" She asked.
I frowned. "Ok, but does my mom know that you are here?" I asked her.
Eva pipped in "yeah, actually mom just left a few minutes before you came, with dad to aunt Clarissa's house.
I nodded and motioned for Daisy to follow me. We both reached my room, it was a mess. My bed was not made, mom's make up bag was opened and the contents spilled on the vanity mirror, books and clothes were on the floor.
I turned around and gave Daisy a tight smile and pushed her out of my room.
She laughed at me "hey! It's ok. My room is much worser than yours"
"Nope! I'm gonna clean it and only then am I going to let you enter it." And I closed the door after pushing her out.
I dumped all the mess inside my closet as fast as I could and let out a breath. I opened a door to reveal Daisy who was waiting patiently outside. I gestured for her to come in.
She sat on my bed and I sat on the floor and grabbed a pillow, then propelled my elbow to support my head.
"So? What is it?" I asked Daisy.
She sighed, and hesitated "well, you see..... people know that you like Adrian"
I didn't react for a minute, but I felt my head spin taking in the information. I felt as if the whole world was crashing down, My breath caught in my chest. Everything froze.
I felt empty, like a part of me just went missing. I'm sure that's how everyone feels when their secret is out. I stared at the floor for a considerable amount of time but snapped back out of it once Daisy waved her hand in my face. I shook my head slowly trying to get out a reaction.
"What did you say?" I asked to confirm.
She had a sympathetic look on her face "everyone knows that you like Adrian" she whispered.
"Oh..... does he know?" I asked.
"Emily, it doesn't ma-"
"DOES.HE.KNOW?" I cut her off by stressing on my words.
Her head dropped "no, he doesn't know it but it won't help the fact that everyone thinks that you love him"
I frowned at her "I never said anyone..... how could anyone think that I love him?"
She looked down at me "remember that night?"
As realisation drew upon me, I nodded.
"So.. what do we do now?" I asked her.
"It's totally up to you Emily." She said sighing.
I thought about the situation at hand, this was one of the reasons why I never had a crush on anyone. This was a headache, keeping a secret was bad but keeping a secret crush was worse. When the news gets out, it will suck all your life out.
I bit my lip and got up, Daisy soon mirrored my actions. I gently placed my pillow on the bed and got out the door, with Daisy on my trail. I went down the stairs to see my sister playing some game on her I-pad, I ignored her and went out into the garden.
My painting canvas and stool sat under the Cherry blossom tree. The leaves turned orange due to the change in the season but nonetheless, the scenery had a calming effect on me. I strolled forward and took a seat on my stool. There was an unfinished painting of my garden on the canvas, I ignored it and stared off into space as I inhaled some air.
Daisy followed me here and she took a seat on the grass covered ground.
"Alaska, Paige and Natasha doesn't know this" she said softly.
It started as a drop of tear falling on my lap, soon I started tearing up.
I leant into my palms and started bawling like a child.
I felt hands on my shoulders, which I'm sure was Daisy's. so I replaced my palms with her shoulder.
She hugged me tightly and said it will be alright.
"Daisy, now everyone is going to think that I'm a brainless moron for thinking that I stood a chance with him."
"Shhh...... it's alright, whatever others think is not what makes us, understand? You will become stronger than you have ever been and move towards a better tomorrow, okay?" She said as I nodded.
I calmed down after that and said that I was fine.
Daisy inspected my painting and asked "hey! Did you do that?"
I nodded shyly waiting for her reaction.
She smiled in amusement "it looks pretty cool" she then patted me on the back.
I thanked her as I smiled back. We got inside the house, Eva gave me a funny look. I know how I must be looking right now, red nose, puffy eyes and all.
I once again ignored her and went upstairs to my room. Daisy and I spent the rest of the after noon finishing our homework assignments. She bought her books with her just in case.
It was already 3 in the noon when her dad came to pick her up.
I was left alone in my room, thinking about my messed up life when I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in" I said and frowned to see Eva peaking inside. She normally wouldn't knock on the door, barging in was her style but I think the expression on my face earlier made her act this way to me.
"Yeah? Anything I can do?" I asked her.
She smiled and nodded "Emily, can you please make something for me to eat?"
I smiled to myself and nodded as we went down to the kitchen to make something to eat.
I made her scrambled eggs and some waffles with the batter which was already in the refrigerator.
We both ate in front of the television, a rare sight since mom never allowed us to have food outside of the dining room.
After we were done, we both shared the chores equally and cleaned up the kitchen. Wow, she really was acting really nicely towards me......
"Emily... I need you to speak to mom and dad to rise my pocket money"
Here it goes...... and I was ACTUALLY thinking that she pitied me. Ya right!
The day she feels sad for me is the day when the world is ending.
I laughed at my stupidity and nodded "ok, sure"
She gave me a wide grin and ran out the kitchen squealing in happiness.
...Emily's POV
...
I was already dreading school today. I didn't want to face the rumours, it would kill me...
I took a shower, put on my uniform, then I put my hair in a side ponytail and applied some lip balm and got out of my room with my bag.
A smile made way on my face when I smelt my favourite smell... Bacon!!
I ran into the kitchen happily to grab a pice of it. Eva and my dad were seated at the dining table and mom was cooking. I saw eggs and bacon on the table. I eagerly took a seat next to Eva and put some in my plate. The smell was delicious and the taste was ecstatic!
Even after gobbling up 2 omelettes and some bacon, I wasn't satisfied so I took a piece of bacon from Eva's plate without her notice. She was busy reading the newspaper.
I giggled and popped it into my mouth and washed my hands.
Once they were done, dad dropped us off in school and went off to his office.
I took a deep breath and entered the hallways. Some girls turned to look at me, the whispers started.
I tried to keep a straight face and made my way to my classroom. The girls in my class also started whispering when I opened the door. I was devastated.
I saw Alaska in our usual place, she was eating something, I took a closer look, it was an energy bar.
"Hey" I greeted her.
"Hi!" She smiled at me but noticed the tired look on my face.
"Emily, what's wrong?" She asked with concern. I shook my head.
Daisy was nowhere to be seen so I just gave up searching for her, then the first subject started. It was Geography. I zoned off the entire time, thinking about the rumours and the whispers. The thing that snapped me out of my trance was the door bursting open.
There stood a very apologetic looking Daisy.
"I am very sorry for coming late ma'am" she said to Mrs. Lauren. Mrs. Lauren being the completely strict teacher, screamed at her for a good minute or so and let her return to her seat.
"And Ms. Mathews, did you complete the essay I gave you?" She asked gravely.
Daisy gulped visibly and slowly shook her head.
Mrs. Lauren gasped and yelled at her "detention for you!"
I softly let out a giggle, but then realised my mistake, the silence was too painful to bear, everyone's eyes were on me, it was my turn to gulp.
I closed my eyes for the impact "DETENTION FOR BOTH OF YOU!!"
I winced at the volume of her voice.
Daisy made her way to her place and gave me a sympathetic look. I shrugged and turned towards the teacher. She started explaining something about the relief features of the world or some shit.
The class went on like that for the rest of the period. She was the kind of teachers who made you repeat every single word she tells you, and randomly picks on innocent students.
After the teacher got out of the class, everyone started talking. I became self conscious, I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate on the whispering.
"Did you know? That bitch Emily loves Adrian. Like, seriously? Who will even like her back? She looks like a homeless person!" Someone behind me whispered.
I looked behind to see who it was.
Samantha looked at me guiltily, while Anastasia gave me the evil eye. I turned around to avoid their eyes and opened my book, pretending to study when in reality, I was freaking out about my situation.
I felt someone sit down next to me, it was Daisy. She looked happy? But why? She
"Why are you smiling like that?" I asked her while narrowing my eyes.
"Your news is nothing compared to the latest gossip, so I think everyone is bound to forget it"
I let her words enter my brain, for a second I was baffled, almost shocked. What could be more interesting than this? What could be more gossip worthy?
"What is it?" I asked her curiously.
"Drew Ray is pregnant!"
My eyes widened, my brain was trying to make sense of the information and put the pieces together. Then I remembered the day when she came crying out of the nurse's office.
I frowned "but how?" I asked.
"You know, how the 2 genders have a intercourse an-"
I rolled my eyes and cut her off mid sentence "not THAT, but when and how did it happen?"
"On our annual sports meet, she and another guy were getting it on in one of their cars and a faculty saw it. The teacher went and complained to the principal of our school and Drew is now suspended from our school." Daisy said.
"oh...." Drew was only a year elder to us, she was one of the best students of our school, good grades and sports activities. She was even the sports secretary for our school. Her getting pregnant at the age of 15 is just too hard to believe. I was just happy that no one was going to take my topic for a long time.
